Automation Engineer III
Department: Manufacturing Engineering
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Charlestown, NH
Description
Creates, designs, tests and oversees the development of new automation systems and troubleshoots and maintains existing automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for several components of a project or a complex component of a larger project.
  • Responsible for small projects to medium projects within functional discipline.
  • Contributes to their team or department by applying their knowledge of one or more functional areas.
  • Fully developed professional able to work without direct guidance or direction from others.
  • Works closely with leaders and operators to support continuous improvement.
  • Communicates professionally with leadership, teammates and operations personnel using appropriate technical language and descriptions.
  • Has in depth knowledge of the discipline and role.
  • Works and communicates well with other members of the engineering team and with members of the production team as well as external vendors.
  • Accepts and incorporates customer feedback and specifications into designs and projects.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves intermediate issues with existing systems within the company.
  • Works with operators, technicians and vendors as required to resolve troubleshooting issues.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, datasheets and computer-generated reports.
  • Implements operating procedures, resolves system malfunctions, and provides technical information.
  • Provides training and ongoing support on manufacturing systems.
  • Is able to prioritize work to adapt to current company needs.
  • Creates schematics, blueprints, and work instructions for small to large projects.
  • Sources components and prepares specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
  • Operates computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Electrical/controls focused automation engineer:
  • Intermediate experience with programming new and troubleshooting existing elements of the following: PLCs, industrial computers, HMIs, drives, robots, etc.
  • Integrates components of controls systems.
  • Designs and works with low-power elements of controls systems.
  • Designs and works with high-power elements of controls systems.
  • Use standard electrician's tools to build new and troubleshoot existing controls systems.
  • Specific equipment & software - Experience with brands listed is preferred, but the candidate is expected to have familiarity with comparable solutions to those listed: Allen Bradley (Rockwell Automation) PLCs, motion controls, HMIs. Safety systems and sensors. ABB & Fanuc robots. SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical. Ignition HMI software and Allen Bradley FactoryTalk View Studio ME & SE. Industrial vision systems - any brand.
  • Mechanical focused automation engineer:
  • Integrate mechanical elements of a system.
  • Design and manufacture mechanical elements of a cell.
  • Use standard mechanic's tools to build new and troubleshoot/repair existing systems.
  • Specific equipment & software: CNC mills and lathes, welding, basic fabrication, 3D printers. Familiarity with sheet metal and weldment design. SolidWorks, CAM software (any).
