Job description

SUMMARY:Reporting to the Chief Engineer, Power Plant and under general supervision, operates microprocessor-controlled medical waste autoclave system. Monitors performance of operations by means of gauges, valves, video display and visual observations. Cleans, inspects, maintains and repairs high-pressure boilers and makes necessary repairs to auxiliary equipment such as conveyors, scrubbers and hydraulic drive augers. The core Success Factors include:Instill Trust and Value DifferencesPatient and Community Focus and CollaborateRESPONSIBILITIES:Makes visual inspection in the medical waste autoclave room and checks status of all equipment.Maintains close surveillance of bearing temperatures, oil pressures and temperatures of medical waste autoclave system through use of microprocessor based controls.Maintains log of readings from all gauges and meters, including amount of steam and electricity consumed.Checks all pumps, fans, augers, conveyors and hydraulics, and lubricates moving parts as necessary.Inspects high-pressure boilers for water residue in pipes for worn and clogged valves, and to ascertain correct water chemical mix. Cleans the boiler, pipes and valves and makes repairs needed; inspects the burners and removes any unburned materials.Performs routine maintenance such as lubrication, repair and replacement on ancillary equipment such as steam, water, air and oil valves through out power plant, boiler room and medical autoclave spaces.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of thermodynamics of steam, principles of hydraulics and electricity.Requires mechanical ability to diagnose problems and make repairs to equipment.Requires knowledge and ability to interpret and perform required maintenance specifications on equipment under appropriate regulations.Knowledge of pertinent regulations including Division of Environmental Air Quality regulations.Completion of High School or Vocational School.Completion of one to two years training in boiler operations and/or incinerator plant operations, generally acquired from technical school or military service.EXPERIENCE:Minimum of three years experience including one to two year's previous experience in boiler operations and mechanical repair.Requires a Boiler Operator's License.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None
