Job description

Ensure work flows efficiently and effectively through the Wood Department with an eye toward the big picture of the project and the necessary interaction with all ATOMIC Departments, from any profit center. As a working lead, complete all necessary tasks to meet the needs of internal and external clients.

    • "Other duties as assigned" is part of our team culture. While we have individual roles and responsibilities, one constant is help and support for each other.
    • The dynamic nature of the live events industry requires flexibility to work overtime, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, as dictated by project schedules and client needs.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the team, ensuring project and department goals are met.
  • Ensure that proper resources (labor, time, inventory) are available for all projects in the department.
  • Delegate tasks to team members, ensuring project timelines are maintained in collaboration with other departments supporting efficient show workflow.
  • Contribute to all functions within the department as necessary to meet department goals as a working lead.
  • Maintain in depth knowledge of software, tools, machines, and equipment to lead the team successfully.
  • Proactively maintain equipment (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.) and work with vendors to troubleshoot technical or mechanical issues arise.
  • Complete order requests for inventory and supplies, ensuring proper inventory usage processes are followed in a timely manner.
  • Complete month end processes, as necessary for the department.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing appropriate standards and procedures and complying with those established by the Safety Committee.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain ATOMIC’s quality control standards, at times working with other department leads and/or profit centers.
  • Carry ATOMIC’s culture of respect to the team, leading by example and coaching team members.
  • Motivating the team to achieve department and organizational goals.
  • Review/understand areas of strength of current team members to set individuals up for success, while planning for areas of concern.
  • Focus on continuous improvement via feedback from and to Account Management, Technical Design and Operations to meet client and company needs.
  • Provide skilled contributions in any ATOMIC Profit Center and position as needed.
  • Actively schedule 1:1 discussion with each team member, in the department monthly, with a focus on areas of success and growth and development needs.
  • Support in the yearly budgeting process for the department.
  • Support in monitoring department expenditures with management.
  • Work with senior level management on promotional opportunities and compensation review.
Organizational Relationships
  • The Wood Shop Lead reports to the Shop Floor Manager and works closely with Account Management, Project Management and Shop Leads, supporting all Profit Centers.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Scenic construction and rigging.
  • Knowledge and experience with cabinetry and display projects.
  • Knowledge of theater terms and procedures.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Interpersonal skills that facilitate the ability to work with and lead many personality types.
  • Solid knowledge of shop tools, hardware and supplies.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and planning skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to read drawings and ground plans.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • 5+ years of experience in the scenic industry, with previous experience managing a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Those necessary for general warehouse work
  • Typical manufacturing environment for the majority of the time with occasional offsite work at industry-based venues.
