Description The Athletic Supervisor is a full-time position responsible for the planning, promotion, organization, evaluation, and management of city athletic programs, leagues, and assigned special events. This position oversees athletic facilities and fields, supervises full-time and part-time staff, and ensures the delivery of high-quality recreational opportunities that meet the needs of the community. The Athletic Supervisor provides leadership in program development, customer service, risk management, and operational efficiency while maintaining compliance with department policies and safety standards.
Successful performance ensures the efficient and effective delivery of leisure services to city residents and visitors. Job Domains RESPONSIBILITY: Requires close cooperation and interaction with coworkers, other city staff, program participants, local business leaders, contractors, vendors, parents, and members of the general public. Work involves a high degree of public contact.
Responsible for, but not limited to the following: Manage, maintain, and promote city-wide athletic programs, including but not limited to youth instructional sports, youth/adult leagues, contractual sports programs, and special events. Develop and implement quality athletic programs for all ages. Prepare material for assigned program areas including the seasonal brochure, rental forms, registration forms, and facility schedules.
Develop seasonal schedules, program calendars, and league operations. Manage contractual and instructional sports programs. Communicate with the Superintendent on issues that are related to athletic programming, customer service, marketing, and budgets.
Directly supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate two full-time recreation staff members. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 40 part-time and seasonal employees, including scorekeepers, officials, and site supervisors. Develop staff schedules and assign work responsibilities.
Ensure staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and customer service standards. Recruit and train athletic volunteers and coaches. Conduct inspections of athletic facilities and equipment to ensure safety and operational readiness.
Collaborate with maintenance personnel regarding field preparation, facility improvements, and equipment needs. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, risk management practices, and emergency procedures. Respond to participant concerns, complaints, and inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
Implement and enforce department policies, procedures, and code of conduct standards. Continually identify nationwide and local trends. Develop and implement similar programs and opportunities for residents and participants.
Work closely with local organizations and schools to strengthen and maintain a positive cooperative working relationship. Continually evaluate programs and facilities to ensure the needs of the public and the goals of EPRD. Maintain regular and timely attendance in accordance with your assigned schedule.
Attend athletic events and activities during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Represent the City of Enterprise in a professional manner at all times; practice exceptional public relations that promote a positive image of EPRD. Support the relationship between the City of Enterprise and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, City staff, and others contacted in the course of work; maintain confidentiality of customer and City information.
Adhere to the highest standards of ethical business conduct and compliance by acting lawfully, ethically, honestly, and professionally in the performance of job duties at all times, as well as remaining compliant with the City of Enterprise policy and procedures as it relates to job functions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alabama for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must pass background, MVR check, and drug testing. Ability to recruit, hire, train, and supervise full time, part-time and seasonal staff (and volunteers) to result in quality programs and customer service.
Ability to effectively manage staff and resources; including prioritizing work, delegating assignments, supervising, training, and evaluating the work of assigned staff. Ability to work effectively with volunteers, full-time, part-time, seasonal, and administrative staff to reach the goals of the department. Ability to identify and implement current industry trends.

Minimum Qualifications Possession of a high school diploma or GED supplemented by college level course work in recreation, physical education, or a closely related field. Two years of recreation experience in planning, organizing and conducting athletic activities is preferred. At least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. RecDesk experience is a plus. At least two (2) years of experience managing all safety aspects of athletic programs.
At least two (2) years of experience in athletic program management, to include league and tournament management. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and effectively lead and train others, answer questions, and resolve issues.
