Job Summary: Under the direction of the Store Director, The Assistant Store Director is directly responsible for the Grocery Department, as well as assisting and working with the Store Director in all aspects of the entire store. In the absence of the Store Director, the Assistant Store Director assumes the responsibilities of the Store Director.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Customer service
  • Assists with supervision, development, training and direction of the various departments and their department managers
  • In the absence of the Store Director, has the authority to approve documents and items relating to the store's operation
  • Promote and maintain the proper and efficient servicing of customers
  • Foster good relationships in the community and collaborate with business partners
  • Ensure that the store's activities comply with the rules/regulations of various governmental and regulatory agencies
  • Assists in addressing, reviewing and controlling expenses within the store
  • Ensures good communication is maintained between associates, store management and administrative staff
  • Provides training, guidance and counseling to store management staff and associates
  • Foster a harmonious positive environment
  • Provide a safe and sanitary environment for customers and associates
  • Take appropriate loss prevention measures
  • Oversees liquor department, including but not limited to: ordering, shelf signs, stocking, displaying and pricing
  • Understand, enforce and abide by all company policies and procedures

Other Job Duties:

  • In the absence of a Grocery Manager, able to handle all essential job duties of a Grocery Manager
  • Conduct floor checks, ensuring that the shelves are adequately stocked, products are merchandised properly and rotated according to department standards
  • Recommend changes in procedures, house rules and work methods as necessary
  • Recognize and assist in the advancement of qualified associates
  • Conduct periodic competitor checks
  • Any tasks as deemed necessary by management

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs on own
  • Must be able to push and pull at least 1000 lbs
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Frequent bending and stooping required during the course of the workday
  • Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for various activities
  • 18 years of age or older (operates heavy machinery)

Work Hours:

  • On average, minimum 45 hours/week

  • Fast-paced environment that may be demanding and/or stressful
  • Work done primarily indoors with air conditioning
  • Warehouse is not air conditioned, and could reach temperatures of over 100 Degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months
  • Walk-in chills; temperatures between 30-40 Degrees Fahrenheit
  • Walk-in freezer; temperatures below 0 Degrees Fahrenheit

Qualifications:

  • Education/Training/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess knowledge, experience and expertise of the grocery operations or similar job experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Grocery/Retail or similar job experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in departmental management experience or similar equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of computer
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Communication:

  • Able to effectively communicate with others in English

  • Possess acceptable written and verbal communication skills in English
