Job Description:

Location: Waterloo King office (in person 1-2x a week)

Energetic Student Associate Software Engineer sought by industry-leading Canadian Asset Management & Insurance Company.In this role, you will work together with experienced software engineers, sub architects, business analysts,and testers to design, develop, and implement solutions. You will learn our software delivery methodology, good software development practice, and continuously grow your technical knowledge, communication skills, and leadership skills.

What will you do?

  • Be a collaborative team member who continuously strives to improve the client experience, our team, and our processes
  • Work with an agile squad updating AI Agents to automate their existing legacy processes as part of Sun Life's mainframe modernization efforts
  • Learn JCL, COBOL or PL1, IMS, DB2, IDz and other mainframe programming skills
  • Grow your problem solving and software development skills
  • Demonstrate strong ownership of technical work
  • Create/update team artifacts and deliver value to the client

What do you need to succeed?

  • Graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Keen appetite for learning relevant technologies and for continuous self-improvement
  • Ideally, we'll also get somebody with one or more of the following:
    • Excellent communication and organization skills
    • Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket, and Jenkins is a plus
    • IBM Z Xplore concepts badge, JCL, COBOL, or PLI an asset
    • Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban would be an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted for. The Base Pay which you will be considered for will vary depending on the Campus program you are selected for.
