General Summary:The Senior Software Engineer is a key technical leader within an Agile team, partnering closely with the Technical Product Owner and Principal Software Engineer to ensure highquality, scalable solutions aligned with established architecture standards. In this role, you will contribute to the conceptualization, design, development, and delivery of features across the Total Leave portfolio, working collaboratively with business area architects to shape and advance technical solutions.
A core focus of this position is supporting Unum's Total Leave teams through deep expertise in Fineos and custom Fineos development-including handson configuration, Javabased enhancements, and the integration of Fineos components into Unum's broader ecosystem. You may also research and evaluate thirdparty and cloud technologies to drive efficient integrations and modernize solution capabilities.
As a senior member of the engineering community, you will serve as a subjectmatter expert across applications and technology stacks, providing technical guidance and mentorship to Software Engineers and Associate Software Engineers. This role is essential in growing future engineering talent, strengthening delivery practices, and ensuring the success of innovative, customercentric solutions across the portfolio.


Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 6+ years of software development experience in a Scrum/Agile environment
  • Strong Java development skills, including J2EE technologies (JSP, JMS) and integrations (Web Services, APIs)
  • Experience with Fineos Admin Suite (Claims) configurations and Java customizations
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL) and strong SQL query skills
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problemsolving skills with attention to detail
  • Skilled in Agile methodologies, TDD, unit testing, and automation toolsets
  • Experience with continuous integration and delivery practices
  • Strong communication skills with experience leading discussions and collaborating across diverse teams
  • Innovative, selfmotivated, resultsoriented, and able to motivate others
  • Strong team player who partners effectively across the organization

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing application features
  • Provide technical leadership for EPIC feature delivery and ensure alignment with quality attributes (performance, scalability, fault tolerance)
  • Design, code, configure, test, and document software using established standards and tools
  • Collaborate with architects and Principal SEs on coding standards, tools, processes, and reference architecture
  • Deliver secure, scalable solutions that follow best practices and consider buyvsbuild and cloudfirst approaches
  • Ensure the product backlog contains appropriate technical stories and support prioritization
  • Mentor Software Engineers and Associate Engineers
  • Maintain accountability for solution quality from design through production
  • Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders throughout feature delivery
  • Stay current on thirdparty/cloud technologies and their implementation
  • Assess technical impacts and coordinate implementation of new product releases
  • Participate in sizing, estimation, code reviews, sprint ceremonies, and retrospectives

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$89,400.00-$183,500.00
