Job overview
The Museum Front Desk Associate is the friendly face guests see when they visit the Museum of American Speed. In this role, you'll greet visitors, answer questions, run admissions and gift shop sales, and help keep our front desk and retail space running smoothly.   • Greet and assist museum guests in a professional, friendly, and engaging manner.
  • Answer questions regarding museum exhibits, programs, and events.
  • Handle admission sales, gift shop purchases both in store and online, and other transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Restock and organize gift shop merchandise, ensuring displays are tidy and appealing.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming reception and retail space.
  • Balance cash drawers and reconcile sales at the end of each shift.
  • Provide general administrative support to museum staff as needed.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on commitments.

Work Schedule
Winter Hours (October-April)
Mondays & Fridays: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Saturdays: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Summer Hours (April-September)
Thursday and 1-2 other weekdays: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Saturdays: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
This role primarily works within the hours listed above. On occasion, special events or operational needs may require work outside of the standard schedule.

Work Environment
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and filing cabinets.
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment with minimal exposure to noise or hazards.
  • May be exposed to varying temperatures depending on the season.

What you'll need to succeed in this position:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Able to work museum public hours, including Saturday mornings and occasional evening/weekend events
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Retail or hospitality experience
  • Interest in automotive history
  • Event support experience
  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment
