Position Summary:

Liberty is seeking an Associate Underwriter to join our growing Construction team! The primary focus of this role will be underwriting, marketing, maintaining, and growing an assigned Construction portfolio spanning property and casualty lines on an annual and project basis — focusing on P&C commercial Package, automobile, contractors’ equipment as well as the possibility of builders risk and wrap-up.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a desire for and continuous pursuit towards ‘elite underwriting’ skills and knowledge of Liberty products, with a focus on Construction lines of business.
  • Production and underwriting of an assigned book of new and renewal business; including analysis of risk, negotiation of policy terms and conditions, pursuit of rate adequacy and strong account retention, all consistent with Liberty underwriting guidelines and strategies.
  • Ensure proper exposure analysis, documentation, quality and timeliness of account summaries, file organization, adherence to Underwriter guidelines, and effective use of risk services, actuary and claims resources.
  • Maintain and expand Liberty broker relationships through regular marketing activities, active prospecting of account rounding opportunities and the development of a pipeline of new middle market clients.
  • Work closely with other Liberty business units to leverage multi-line business opportunities.
  • Demonstrate effective prioritization of workload and provide superior customer service to our brokers and clients.
  • Continuous learning and development through attendance of industry events, relevant seminars and courses, and learning from existing Liberty expertise.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • University degree with a focus in business, engineering or applied science considered an asset.
  • Related work experience in the insurance industry is considered an asset.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical skills, in addition to strong business and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Superior relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Must portray action oriented behavioral traits and is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Able to make sound underwriting decisions in a timely manner under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and pursues the business with energy, drive and an ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be effective in a variety of formal presentations settings including one-on-one, small and large groups and can adjust communication to an audience to ensure being effective.

Target Hiring Range:

CAD $65,000-$75,000 per year (base salary).

This range represents the expected annual base salary for this role, however, offers above the published maximum may be approved with appropriate business authorization. Final offers will be determined based on each candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and the needs of the role. The posted range does not include variable compensation (bonus), allowances, or benefits. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
