Summary/Purpose

The Associate Process Engineer will have an understanding of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques. Technical skills required in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, and production equipment with a strong focus on bearing manufacturing processes. Working with personnel from manufacturing, maintenance, set-up and engineering, the manufacturing engineer must be able to improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical support for existing equipment and processes in a manufacturing environment to ensure optimum efficiency is achieved.
  • Design and development of tooling, mechanisms, and equipment for use in metalworking in manufacturing processes
  • Perform standard analysis, calculations, and generate drawings, as required in product engineering designs.
  • Independently manage multiple projects and activities to meet safety, quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement goals while meeting planned deadlines.
  • Support of other engineers in solving problems associated with manufacturing new or existing products.
  • Requires the ability to interact and work with associates at multiple skill levels throughout the organization.
  • Provide engineering support in area of scrap reduction, productivity improvements utilizing Lean tools, machine builds, and quality improvements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in using computers with the Windows operating system including the Microsoft Office Group of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Pro/Engineer and AutoCAD.
  • Capable of taking engineering theories and putting them to practical use in manufacturing.
  • Understand and ability to apply Statistical Process Control to solve problems and make sound judgment.
  • Ability to document process changes in support of a structured Quality Assurance system.
  • Ability to work independently within a team structure.
  • Must understand and be able to implement Lean manufacturing concepts, problem-solving techniques, and root-cause analysis.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers
  • Experience in mechatronics and automated transfer processes
  • Practical understanding of problem-solving techniques such as, 8D, A3, 5 Why, etc.
  • Uses hands on approach to engineering in support of abrasive metal removal processes

Education and Experience:

  • Qualified candidates will have a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with 0 - 2 years of experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a normal office setting and on shop floor. In the office setting there will be minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.  Shop floor setting will result in exposure to hot and cold temperatures, noise, fumes, limited dust, and oily coolants.  Requires walking, climbing, bending, and occasional lifting of material up to 40 pounds.
  • The performance of this position will require daily exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Travel by automobile and plane may be required at times.
