Job description

Category Management Analyst Job Summary:
The Category Management Analyst will own customer-facing category storytelling, line-review execution, and assortment and shelf (planogram) recommendations across assigned retail accounts for Pompeian. This role serves as the primary category resource for assigned accounts, building buyer-ready category narratives, competitive analyses, and planogram recommendations that position Pompeian as the category thought leader in cooking oils and partners cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Innovation. Data sources include retailer proprietary data, syndicated data, and internal sales, plus additional sources as required. This position reports to the Associate Director of Category Insights.
This is a remote position, open to candidates residing in a U.S. state where Pompeian is currently registered to employ (including Maryland, PA., Georgia, CT., CO, Florida, IL., SC, TX., AZ, MI, OH, MN, NH, CA, New Jersey, Washington, & Colorado) Approximately 25% travel for customer meetings, sales planning meetings, marketing meetings, line-review presentations, and periodic visits to the Baltimore corporate office if candidate resides outside of Maryland.
Category Management Analyst Requirements:
  • BS/BA required in Business Administration, Marketing, Data Analytics or related field
  • 1-3 years of category management experience at a CPG company, including direct, customer-facing work with retail buyers required
  • Exposure to customer-facing category work with proven experience building and presenting category or line-review content to retail buyers required
  • Exposure to planogram (POG) and shelf/assortment work required
  • Proficient in Nielsen and/or Circana and retailer-specific syndicated data sources
  • Ability to synthesize large and disparate data sets into clear, buyer-ready category narratives and recommendations
  • Must possess strong computer skills, including advanced functionality in Excel and presentation development in PowerPoint
  • Motivated, self-starter who can identify problems and create data-driven solutions; high data curiosity and analytical mindset
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; highly organized, resourceful, and adaptive; able to learn new software at an accelerated pace
  • Familiarity with Power BI (to consume and maintain existing dashboards - refresh and maintenance only; with weekly reporting)
  • Experience in olive oil, cooking oils, or center-store grocery categories a plus

Category Management Analyst Responsibilities:
  • Own and deliver customer-facing category decks, line-review presentations, and planogram recommendations for assigned accounts
  • Develop and execute account-level category growth strategies aligned to Pompeian's business objectives
  • Build trusted-advisor relationships with retailer buyers and merchandising teams; lead category reviews and contribute to line reviews and joint business planning (JBP) discussions
  • Lead planogram development and optimization - advising on assortment, flow, and space allocation; support set-room work for major and minor resets and cut-ins as needed
  • Translate shopper, consumer, and marketplace insights into actionable assortment, pricing, and shelf recommendations
  • Monitor category and brand performance using POS, panel, and shopper data; surface risks and build action plans to close gaps
  • Partner with the Associate Director of Category Insights to develop category narratives, competitive positioning, and go-to-market strategy
  • Maintain and refresh the existing suite of reporting deliverables and dashboards within Power BI
  • Track new item launches and benchmark against existing and competitive launches; conduct analysis for SKU rationalization, promotional planning, and post-promotion efficacy
  • Travel to customer meetings to present category insights and recommendations alongside the Sales team
  • Present a professional, visible image of the company and promote the ideals & values of the Pompeian organization
  • Ensure all projects and work comply with environmental regulations & goals and perform duties per Pompeian's mission, goals, and core values
  • Other ad hoc tasks and data needs as needed
