Job description

In Pharmacy at Main Campus Children's of Alabama
Work schedule will be 7 On 7 Off on the Night shift, Monday - Sunday, 7pm-5am.
Summary:
A Pharmacy Technician is responsible for responding to patient needs for medications and utilizing technical preparation skills to compound, manufacture; and assimilate the medications necessary for the operation of all pharmaceutical services at Children's Hospital of Alabama. A Pharmacy Technician must be able to work efficiently and accurately while following diversified departmental policies and procedures while under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. This practice will be governed by the standards of institutional hospital pharmacy as stated by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy.

Capable of obtaining a level of competency necessary to complete the following COA formal training programs:
Aseptic Technique and USP <797> Training Programs
Calculations and Computations for oral and IV compounding
Safe Handling of Cytotoxic Drugs
Automated Dispensing Machines
Code/Trauma Response
Effective January 1, 2020, new hires must obtain certification by a national board accredited association within 18 months of hire. Employees hired before this date are grandfathered and remain in compliance.
Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:

* Certified Pharmacy Technician PTCB or Certified Pharmacy Technician NHA

The Pharmacy Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide excellent pharmaceutical care to Children's of Alabama Patients. Services include, compounding of sterile and non-sterile medication, pharmacokinetics, medication order verification, OR preference bags, hazardous medication dispensing and compounding, clinical pharmacy services, unit-dosing of medication, automatic dispensing machines (Pyxis), investigational study pharmacy, medication delivery and more. The pharmacy operates out of a central pharmacy located in the Benjamin Russell building. Decentralized services are provided by clinical pharmacists on the units and several pharmacy satellites (main campus OR, Children's South, hematology/oncology clinic, Investigational Pharmacy). The pharmacy utilizes Epic, Epic Willow Inventory, bar code scanning, vertical carousels, and kit management software.
