The Opportunity This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting Grid projects such as Overhead Transmission Line, while building critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using advanced techniques in industry standard design tools, such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and PLS-CADD. Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.

Key Responsibilities - Supports engineering teams under general supervision - Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices - Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) - Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables - Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians - Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures - Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables - Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives - Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures - Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs - Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks - Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences - Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers - Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes

Preferred Qualifications Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred. Minimum Qualifications Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands This position would require working in a typical office environment. The position may entail prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, and the professional would ideally be able to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the workday. The position may also be require physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
