The Opportunity

As an Associate Electrical Distribution Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop electrical distribution deliverables (up to 34.5kV) from design through execution
  • Prepare equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction
  • Correspond with clients, vendors and subcontractors
  • Potential travel opportunities to client and vendor offices and/or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification
  • Adhere to and/or prepare design budgets and schedules
  • Perform QA/QC responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution:  

  • Prepare engineering deliverables for multiple projects
  • Conduct research to develop equipment and material recommendations 
  • Manage data and perform complex engineering calculations
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines
  • Lead larger production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for a project

 Quality/Continuous Improvement:

  • Consistently and independently applies knowledge and complies with Black and Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks 
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with Black and Veatch quality program while performing internal Quality Assurance technical reviews
  • Provides guidance and direction to others from the same project and discipline 
  • Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts

Client Focus: 

  • Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors
  • Identify key client interests and drivers for projects
  • Communicate client concerns to project team members and develop solutions
  • Provide support for business development or pursuit activities
  • Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision

Engineering Production:

  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables 
  • Lead large multi-discipline teams to meet project deliverables
  • Provide technical leadership for Distribution Line projects
  • Drive solutions to achieve project goals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experienced in design services for overhead and underground distribution line projects for investor owned utilities in the United States
  • Experienced in design of overhead and underground distribution projects (4kV-34.5kV)
  • Good communication skills and interest in engaging with Clients to grow relationships
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards including NESC and NEC
  • Working knowledge of interdisciplinary project coordination: procurement, subcontract administration, permitting, real estate and land acquisition, and construction support
  • Working knowledge of the proposal process and developing engineering estimates
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
  • Ability to utilize audio/videoconferencing software tools for internal/external communication
