Job description

Job Title: Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Job Description
As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the complete layout of I&C related engineering drawings. Your tasks will include creating wiring diagrams, location plans, instrument installation details, junction box details, network architecture block diagrams, and loop sheets. You will perform drafting work via AutoCAD (2D and 3D) or Revit depending on the project requirements, and ensure correctness of location and interference checking using SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or Revit. Additionally, you will utilize instrumentation design software to catalog information for reporting purposes.
Responsibilities
  • Complete layout of I&C related engineering drawings based on notes, sketches, vendor drawings, the Statement of Work (SOW) or Design Basis Document (DBD), and general direction.
  • Perform drafting work via AutoCAD (2D and 3D) or Revit.
  • Place 3D renderings of instrumentation items in the project plant-wide 3D model utilizing SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or Revit.
  • Catalog instrumentation information using design software for reporting purposes.
  • Provide job-specific instrument installation details and maintain documentation for vendor and other discipline drawings.
  • Provide information on interface requirements such as equipment spacing, cable numbering, instrument numbering, control philosophy, flow element requirements, etc.
  • Provide material take-offs for bulk commodities from completed engineering documents.
  • Support Construction and Start-Up personnel on-site or remotely.
  • Maintain project files of previous revisions in line with ISO 9001 policies.
  • Check work of other members of the design team as needed.
  • Apply personal considerations consistent with the Company's Core Values.
  • Follow Company policies, design guidelines, and work instructions.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in Instrumentation, PLC programming, and Instrumentation controls.
  • Associate's Degree in Instrumentation / Industrial Automation or equivalent from a qualified technical school.
  • Proficiency with the SmartPlant Software Suite (SPI, SPPID, SP3D).
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD drafting standards including Paper Space / Model Space.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Instrument and Controls Designer in industrial or power plant design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of electronics, electricity, solid state, digital devices, programmable logic controllers (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), transmitters and transducers for temperature, level, flow, and pressure, and recorders.
  • Ability to interpret and understand P&IDs (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams) and incorporate them into the I&C design.
Work Environment
The position offers the possibility of fully remote work. While candidates from the entire country are welcome, there is a preference for those located in the West Coast timezone. The role may require occasional relocation or travel depending on project needs.
