Primary Purpose of  Applications Engineer 

The Application Engineer position is responsible for supporting sales process of our robotic tooling and industrial automation product lines, utilizing strong communication skills with our customers and other partners in the manufacturing space. This responsibility includes technical support before, during, and after the sales process with a focus on how to apply and use SCHUNK components, as well as selecting, sizing, concepting, quoting appropriate products that align with customer needs. The candidate will interact with inter-company departments and customers frequently to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.


Requirements

What You Will Do:

Develop and prepare customer quotes for specialty components

Review customer specifications and/ or review customer parts

Interpret drawings and other customer documents

Develop customer design specifications

Coordinate development of design drawings with customer and SCHUNK Design Engineering team

Follow-up on prototype product design and application issues with customer, making required changes to final design to meet customer requirements and quality standards

Preparing and delivering quotes and sales orders to customer

Track and follow up on quotes and sales orders with customers and potential customers

Monitor design and production schedules for special applications, ensuring coordination across SCHUNK teams and facilities to meet customer and business requirements.

Track and follow-up on sales order progress through and including ensuring product delivery and customer satisfaction, making adjustments to production and/or delivery schedule when required to meet customer and SCHUNK business requirements

Provide technical service and training presentations to customers and representatives relating to SCHUNK component's use, operation and maintenance

Provide customer support by phone, email and some on customer site

May enter customer quotes and sales orders into SAP, tracking the order process and follow up through delivery of the product

Perform duties of the Technical Specialist and Customer Service Representative (CSR) when necessary to meet business and customer needs

Work across product teams on special projects, trade shows, and internal events - Toolholding, Workholding and Automation Components, the production shop, and the sales and marketing staff

Participate in SCHUNK special projects when requested

Some light travel maybe required


What You Need:

 Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology preferred; Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical field accepted, with three or more years of related support experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Prior experience with mechanical industrial automation components or mechatronics is highly desired. 

Ability to build and maintain relationships with assigned accounts.

Ability to develop sufficient knowledge of customer business needs to accurately quote SCHUNK product solutions with an emphasis on Quality and Technical Service

Ability to use PC applications including advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite and email. Prefer prior experience using an ERP system for processing quotes and orders.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and torque loads.

Ability to communicate technical information effectively over the phone, email and face-to-face with customers and employees.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and small team environment with Management, other Technical Specialist, Applications Engineers, CSR and inside and outside sales staff

Critical thinking skills - recognize and analyze problems, develop and implement solutions.
