Staff Accountant

Plunkett's Pest Control, a family-owned company with over 100 years of history, is adding a Staff Accountant to our growing Finance team. This is a newly created role, offering the opportunity to help shape how the position develops as our company continues to expand.

The Staff Accountant maintains accurate financial records, supports month-end close, reconciles accounts, and assists with financial reporting. This role also supports our Tax Manager with tax compliance and reporting, and works closely with Operations, Human Resources, and Payroll to ensure our financial transactions are accurate and compliant.

After an initial training period, this role includes one work-from-home day per week.


What You'll Do

  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare recurring financial reports and support budgeting and forecasting
  • Support accounting for chemicals, equipment, fleet assets, and inventory
  • Maintain fixed asset records and calculate depreciation
  • Assist with audits, tax preparation, and regulatory compliance

What You'll Need

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and pivot tables
  • Experience with accounting software or ERP systems
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred, but not required: experience in a service-based, construction, facility services, or pest control industry; familiarity with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics; knowledge of inventory accounting or job-costing; and CPA designation or CPA candidacy.
