What is an assistant virtual lactation consultant?

An Assistant Virtual Lactation Consultant is a professional who supports certified lactation consultants in providing breastfeeding education and assistance to clients remotely, typically via phone, video calls, or online chat. They help answer basic questions, schedule appointments, collect client information, and provide resources under the supervision of a certified consultant. Their role is to make lactation support more accessible and efficient for new parents, especially those who may not be able to attend in-person sessions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assistant virtual lactation consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Virtual Lactation Consultant, you need foundational knowledge of lactation support, basic healthcare principles, and preferably completion of relevant training or certification (such as CLC or IBCLC coursework). Familiarity with telehealth platforms, secure messaging systems, and electronic health records is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and clear virtual communication help build trust with clients and support diverse family needs remotely. These skills are essential for delivering effective virtual lactation support, ensuring client confidentiality, and fostering positive breastfeeding outcomes.

What are the common challenges faced by assistant virtual lactation consultants when providing remote support to clients?
