Job description

Job Title: Graduate Assistant (GA)

Department:  Residence Life and Housing

Reports to:  Director of Residence Life and Housing

Position Type: Half-time (20 Hours)

Duration:  Academic Year 2026-2027

Job Summary 

The Graduate Assistant (GA) supports staff in Residence Life and Housing with a variety of tasks related to research, student support, housing tasks, and administrative duties. This role provides graduate students with valuable professional experience while they pursue their advanced studies. The GA collaborates closely with staff to help achieve departmental objectives, encourage academic involvement, and contributes to the success of departmental initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Departmental Support:
    Provide support specific to Residence Life and Housing operations, including, but not limited to,assistingwith residential initiatives, occupancy management,Residence Hall Councilliaisonand departmental projects. 
  • Administrative Tasks:
    Assist with planning and coordinating residence life programs, training sessions, and housing-related events. Provide general administrative support, including responding to emails, scheduling meetings,maintaininghousing records, and updating occupancy orconductdatabases.
  • Student Support/Collaboration:
    Support residential students by addressing concerns,assistingwith conflict mediation (e.g., roommate agreements), and collaborating with Resident Assistants and Residence Hall Directors to foster a positive living environment.
  • Operations/Facilities Support:
    Assist with housing operations, including room assignments, check-in/check-out processes, and coordination of maintenance or facility concerns withappropriate campuspartners.
  • Communication and Outreach:
    Draft, edit, and distribute communications such as community updates, newsletters, bulletin boards, and social media content to engage residential students and promote housing initiatives.
  • Additional responsibilities related to department: 
  • Other Duties as assigned 
  • Peak Times:Works during high impact periods, which include, but are not limited to: annual forum, graduation, orientations, week prior to the start ofstudent move ins, first two weeks of the semester, last two weeks of the semester prior to finals, and advising periods.  

Qualifications 

  • Enrollment/accepted in a Lackawanna College graduate program in Higher Education, Organizational Leadership & Management, Professional Studies, or MBA . 
  • Strong academic standing. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Teams and willing to learn other new software adopted by Residence Life and Housing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience working as a Resident Assistant (or within ResidenceLife) orin a comparable student leadership or similar collegiate role, is preferred.
