Position: Assistant Controller
Reports to: Controller

POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to oversee and assist with various processes in the accounting department. Essential Functions:
  • Oversee accounting department and internal auditing
  • Supervise, train and mentor accounting dept staff
  • Serve as a liaison between advisors and the accounting team
  • Oversee/handle accounts payable and receivable workflows
  • Test and maintain internal financial controls
  • Oversee team member benefits administration
  • Oversee advisor commissions process
  • Reconcile complex bank and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with tax preparation and filings
  • Assist with managing client/vendor relationships (office supplies, rent, copiers etc)
  • Oversee/handle accounting for North Star related organizations (NS Tax, NSRG Ventures, Charitable Foundation)

Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses /certifications or other knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting. CPA preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in accounting, financials, and financial services preferred
  • Previous experience supervising accounting staff preferred
  • Strong working experience using ERP accounting system (i.e. Great Plains, Business Central)• Solid experience using Quickbooks and other accounting software
  • Strong curiosity and ability to identify and implement process improvements• Experience integrating AI into accounting functions is a plus
  • Extremely high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and research compensation/accounting issues
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and working with large data files
