Summary:

This Assistant Project Manager, MEP supports the planning, design, coordination, construction, commissioning, and turnover of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems across multiple development projects.  Working closely with senior project management, design consultants, contractors, and ownership stakeholders, this role helps ensure that  MEP systems are delivered safely, efficiently, within budget, on schedule, and in accordance with Extell’s quality standards.  This position is ideal for candidates with 3-7 years of experience in MEP engineering, construction management, or owner representation seeking to advance their project management career in complex, high-profile, luxury developments.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Coordination

  • Assist in reviewing MEP design documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure design intent aligns with project goals.
  • Participate in budgeting, scheduling, and value engineering exercises to ensure alignment with project goals.

Construction Oversight

  • Assist in development of scopes of work and contractor selection process.
  • Monitor MEP trade contractors during construction to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and change orders to confirm accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Guide the trade coordination process, ensuring proper integration of MEP systems with architectural and structural elements in alignment with project goals.
  • Track progress, identify issues, and support resolution in collaboration with senior project managers.
  • Monitor MEP installation to enforce project design standards and critical schedule deliverables
  • Work with project team to resolve issues/discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with local utilities, general contractor and design team to ensure project connections are approved and installed to meet project schedule

Commissioning & Turnover

  • Assist in managing commissioning activities for all MEP systems.
  • Verify system performance and ensure proper documentation for handover.
  • Support training and transition of building operations to ownership teams.

General Project Support

  • Maintain project records, reports, and logs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and standards.
  • 3-7+ years of experience in MEP engineering, construction, or owner’s rep roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Experience supporting commercial, hospitality, luxury residential, and/or mixed-use projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems.
  • Familiarity with state and local building codes, permitting processes, and utility coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, and technical documents.
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and commissioning documentation.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, budgeting, and project controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
