Job description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Music Notation Specialist Assistant provides music notation, audio creation, and audio editing support to the Music Notation Specialist and the Course Development Team at Berklee POPP, contributing to the production of online courses for Berklee Online.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working with a variety of software applications. Strong communication skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and a willingness to learn are essential.
Job Responsibilities
  • Use Dorico software at an advanced level for a variety of notation tasks, including tablature notation, multi-staff scores, and complex instrumentation such as orchestral scores, while maintaining accuracy and completing assignments in a timely manner.
  • Create, edit, and prepare audio content for course materials using professional digital audio workstations (DAWs), primarily Logic Pro.
  • Use MuseScore to create, export, and review notation files and MusicXML files.
  • Edit audio files using a DAW such as Logic Pro (preferred); experience with Cubase is also acceptable.
  • Create audio examples, and supporting materials as needed for course development projects, utilizing original recordings, audio editing techniques, and music library resources to support instructional objectives and enhance the student learning experience.
  • Transcribe music from audio and/or video sources to create notation materials for use in online courses.
  • Use Google Workspace applications, including Google Drive and Google Sheets.
  • Proofread text, notation, audio, and multimedia content to ensure accuracy and eliminate errors.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborate closely with the Music Notation Specialist and the Course Development Team to ensure that music notation and audio content align with course objectives and adhere to Berklee Online style guidelines.
  • Work effectively within a team environment, communicating clearly and proactively to support efficient workflows and successful project completion.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced proficiency in Dorico (required)
  • Intermediate proficiency in MuseScore
  • Experience playing guitar and/or piano (preferred, but not required)
  • Advanced proficiency in Logic Pro (required)
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator (preferred; willingness to learn accepted)
  • Experience with Sibelius (preferred, but not required)
