If you're passionate about cutting-edge storytelling, fluent in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects & Photoshop, and thrive in a fast-paced editorial environment, this is your opportunity to help shape the visual voice of one of the most influential brands in pop culture. This is a temporary freelance position with the potential to be extended.

As a Video Editor, you'll be central to creating sharp, captivating edits across our wide range of digital content-including YouTube series, social-first videos, sizzles, and sponsored content. This role requires a rare blend of editorial creativity, technical fluency, and efficient project management.

What You'll Do
  • Edit full videos end-to-end for a variety of formats including YouTube and various social platforms 

  • Craft high-quality edits for longform news interviews, short-form vertical video series with premium motion graphics, and brand specific sizzle reels

  • Apply advanced editing techniques: audio leveling, color correction, transitions, and GFX integration using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop

  • Collaborate with producers to shape narratives that align with Complex's editorial tone and cultural voice

  • Manage a diverse array of footage across different formats, frame rates, resolutions, and codecs

  • Maintain organized project structures, strictly adhering to established naming conventions, media workflows, and archiving protocols

  • Optimize exports for platform-specific technical specs, while maintaining the creative and editorial integrity of each piece

Who You Are
  • 4-8 years experience editing digital-first content, with a reel that demonstrates work on longform interviews, vertical video series, and sizzle reels

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, and strong skills in After Effects

  • A sharp eye for storytelling, pacing, rhythm, and visual polish, along with technical precision

  • Experience working under tight deadlines and managing multiple projects with efficiency and creativity

  • Familiarity with third-party plugins (like Maxon) and openness to experimenting with AI tools for image generation is a plus

  • Deep understanding of social platforms and their respective optimization best practices

  • Genuine interest in contemporary pop culture, along with an appreciation for the diverse subject matter Complex covers-music, fashion, sports, sneakers, internet culture, and entertainment

  • Clear, proactive communication and an ability to thrive in collaborative creative environments

  • Availability to work on-site at our NYC office 5 days a week

$2,000 - $2,085 a week
The Pay Range, which consists of rate of pay per hour, for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
