Job Profile and Objectives

The Assistant Merchant provides administrative and operational support to the Merchant, assisting with assortment management, product data maintenance, and reporting. This role is designed for individuals eager to leverage their skillset and experience in the fundamentals of merchandising and retail operations. The Assistant Merchant will gain exposure to buying processes, analytics, and cross-functional teamwork, with opportunities for growth as skills develop.

Key Responsibilities

Assortment Support

  • Maintain product catalog data (images, attributes, pricing, content) under supervision.
  • Assist with sourcing, reviewing, and tracking new products as directed.
  • Help update merchandise assortment plans and ensure data accuracy.

Project & Administrative Tasks

  • Provide project management support (tracking updates, organizing files).
  • Document vendor meetings, trade shows, and store visits.
  • Manage product samples and coordinate requests with marketing.

Analytics

  • Compile and organize sales and assortment data for analysis.
  • Support competitive research and market trend monitoring.

Cross-functional Integration

  • Collaborate with replenishment, operations, and store teams to support execution of assortment plans.
  • Respond to internal requests for product information and samples.
  • Assist with marketing-related product requests for media, retail, and online channels.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelors degree preferred.
  • 23 years relevant work experience (retail experience a plus)
Skills & Requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively and take direction
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and eager to learn
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, especially Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas) and PowerPoint
