Job Description Summary
The Managing Editor assists in all editorial and production elements of the newspaper, overseeing content, helping the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) manage the team, and promoting high journalistic standards. They can also contribute to writing in any section of the paper.
Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
  • Editorial Leadership & Content Management:
    • Oversee and approve content before publication, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to AP Style
      • Assist EIC in editing articles and cutlines
      • Refine article headlines
    • Develop and enforce ethical journalistic practices, ensuring balanced and
      fact-based reporting
    • Maintain relationships with editorial board and staff to support responsible
      reporting
    • Collaborate with EIC and Creative Director to coordinate print editions
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Attend weekly staff and editorial board meetings
      • Help EIC ensure all sections are aligned and deadlines are met
    • Provide constructive feedback to writers, editors, and multimedia staff to enhance
      storytelling quality
    • Assist in organizational development of the paper
  • Reporting:
    • Contribute to stories across sections when applicable.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Background in journalism.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical reporting standards.
