Lead Clinical Excellence at TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital

As a Hospital Laboratory Supervisor, you’ll use your MLS expertise to lead complex, multi‑disciplinary laboratory operations that directly impact patient care. At TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital, you’ll oversee high‑acuity clinical areas including Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Microbiology, while partnering closely with site and system leadership to ensure quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science or Technology, Chemical or Biological Science is required.
  • 3 - 4 years' of Laboratory experience is required.
  • MLS (ASCP) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent is required.

Job Overview:

This position is responsible for the supervision of Lead Medical Technologists, Lead Medical Laboratory Technicians, Point of Care Coordinator, Registered and Registry-Eligible Medical Technologists, Registered and Registry-Eligible Medical Laboratory Technicians, Co-op Students, Tech Aide IIs, Technologist Associates and Technician Aides in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology and Blood Bank. This position has oversight of Lab Assistants – POC in the ED POC Labs in the absence of a Support Services Supervisor. This position is responsible for the scheduling, duty assignments, productivity, quality control, maintenance and repair of equipment, ordering of supplies, and implementation of new equipment and procedures. 

This position interacts and works effectively and proactively with their site leadership, their one-up, other priority lab supervisors to cover all priority lab needs to include TCI and Ambulatory Labs. This position is also responsible for all functions at priority labs in absence of the site manager. This position is responsible for hiring, terminating, provides performance counseling and appraisals for their direct reports. This position works collaboratively with the TriHealth Laboratories' department specific Technical Specialists and the Lab Compliance/Safety/QA Specialist to maintain quality and compliance with regulatory agencies. The Supervisor of Laboratory Services ensures that the Lab services meet customer needs while continuously striving to improve the quality of services provided.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for efficient use of personnel, capital equipment, and consumables as they relate to technical sections - Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Microbiology. Assists with budget preparation regarding staff and supplies. 
  • Responsible for implementing procedures regarding JCAHO, CAP, OSHA, AABB, and CLIA '88. Receives general direction and oversight from core laboratory section supervisor. 
  • Ensures high quality laboratory data regarding accuracy, precision, and service. 
  • Responsible for monitoring quality control, proficiency surveys, instrument maintenance and repairs, and section quality assurance reports. 
  • Provides timely and essential communications to management (concerning personnel, equipment, complaints, etc.) and to employees (regarding new policies, procedures and general information). Has regular contact with customers (patients, physicians, and nu Maintains high employee morale through effective management. Utilizes team building techniques to problem solve and improve sections. Works with staff to identify and attain career goals, reinforcing positive performance, delegating responsibility, prom Knowledgeable of Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Chemistry and Limited Microbiology, Laboratory and Hospital functions and policies. Pursues continuing education. 
  • Recommends capital equipment needs and construction/renovation changes in lab as needed.
