DuBois Integrity Academy is seeking an exceptional, student-centered instructional leader to serve as the Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies Instructional Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. This position is designed for a highly effective educator who is passionate about improving teaching and learning through coaching, collaboration, and data-driven instructional practices.
Position Summary:
The Middle School ELA & Social Studies Instructional Coach is responsible for strengthening
the instructional capacity of ELA and social studies teachers and improving student
achievement through collaborative coaching, professional development, curriculum support,
and data-driven instructional practices.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled middle grades educator who can lead targeted
professional development, facilitate collaborative planning, support standards-aligned
curriculum implementation, and execute structured coaching cycles. This individual will
support ELA and social studies teachers in strengthening literacy instruction, disciplinary
reading and writing, and engaging, rigorous content delivery across both subject areas.
Key Responsibilities
Professional Development
Design and facilitate high-quality professional development focused on ELA and social
studies best practices, literacy instruction, disciplinary reading and writing, and
differentiated instruction.
Provide ongoing instructional support aligned to school goals, district expectations,
and state academic standards.
Train teachers on standards-aligned unit and lesson design, close reading strategies,
text-based writing, and formative assessment practices.
Stay current on state standards, curriculum resources, and research-based
instructional practices in ELA and social studies.
Instructional Planning & Curriculum Support
Conduct regular planning meetings with ELA and social studies teachers to support
unit design, pacing, and rigorous, standards-aligned instruction.
Support alignment between curriculum, instruction, and assessment across ELA and
social studies content areas.
Assist teachers in developing differentiated lessons that meet the needs of diverse
learners, including struggling readers, multilingual learners, and advanced students.
Collaborate with teachers to strengthen literacy integration within social studies
instruction and content-area reading strategies.
Review lesson plans and instructional materials to ensure fidelity to curriculum and
instructional expectations.
Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring
Lead data meetings focused on benchmark assessments, formative assessments,
writing samples, and intervention data.
Support teachers in using student data to adjust instruction and implement targeted
interventions.
Guide teachers in collecting and analyzing progress monitoring data to ensure
measurable student growth in reading, writing, and content knowledge.
Assist in developing action plans when students are not demonstrating adequate
progress toward grade-level standards.
Coaching Cycles
Execute structured coaching cycles with ELA and social studies teachers.
Conduct pre- and post-observation conferences focused on instructional delivery,
questioning techniques, and rigor.
Model lessons, co-teach, and provide actionable, standards-aligned feedback.
Monitor the implementation of strategies and track coaching outcomes to ensure both
teacher growth and improved student achievement.
Collaboration & Leadership
Serve as a resource for teachers regarding instruction, curriculum implementation, and
assessment practices.
Support preparation for grade-level and content team meetings and attend meetings as
needed to ensure instructional alignment.
Promote a culture of collaboration among ELA and social studies staff.
Partner with administration to ensure school-wide alignment in literacy initiatives,
intervention systems, and instructional practices.
Support onboarding and mentoring of new ELA and social studies teachers.
Qualifications
Master's degree in English, Social Studies, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field
(required or strongly preferred).
Valid teaching certification in English Language Arts and/or Social Studies (middle
grades).
Minimum of 3-5 years of successful middle school ELA and/or social studies teaching
experience.
Demonstrated expertise in standards-aligned curriculum design, literacy instruction,
and disciplinary reading and writing.
Experience leading professional development and facilitating adult learning.
Strong knowledge of differentiated instruction, close reading strategies, text-based
writing, and formative assessment practices.
Experience implementing coaching cycles and providing direct instructional coaching.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret student data and instructional
trends.
