The Assistant Human Resources Manager's role is to act as a lead person within the HR Department in the delivery of Human Resources services; assisting the HR Manager in ensuring that personnel functions conform to all company policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate the daily activities of other HR staff for the purpose of ensuring all appropriate deadlines are met effectively and efficiently.
  • In the absence of the HR Manager, communicates with other employees, departments, administrators, and the public for the purpose of providing information and assistance concerning employment, personnel records, leaves of absence, and related legal requirements.
  • Participates in meetings that involve a range of HR related issues for the purpose of developing recommendations and/or supporting other staff.
  • Supports the HR Manager and HR department staff in assisting with daily HR tasks.
  • Prepare a wide variety of written materials and reports to provide information to Salvation Army Staff, Department Leaders, Administration and Command.
  • Assists as back-up for the HR Manager in ensuring policies and procedures are followed effectively and appropriately.
  • Assists in training other HR staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum education, experience, certifications, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education & Experience:
Preferred Associate's degree or above with a concentration in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Required a minimum of 3 years' experience in HR. Some knowledge of employment laws required.
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and field personnel. Is able to create spreadsheets in Excel. Is able to learn to use the current payroll and finance programs being used by The Salvation Army.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of subordinate staff in the department.
  • Assists the Manager with employment actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Will travel for training or recruiting. Will travel to various locations to train and support management with Human Resources functions.
Working Conditions:
Work is mostly performed in a typical office environment but at times will be in a warehouse or store environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. The environment may be dusty and may experience temperature fluctuations based on weather. This is a Full-Time Exempt position; requires some weekend and evening work.
