Job description

This position is designated as a hybrid role based out of our headquarters near Portland, Oregon. The current expectation is for employees to work onsite four days per week, subject to change based on business needs. This in-office requirement may be adjusted at the discretion of the company.

The eCommerce team powers our US and Canada Columbia.com sites as well as our Customer Care Center. From merchandising and marketing to product management and technology, the consumer is at the center of everything we do. The eCommerce team is known for the relentless improvement of the customer experience-always striving for a better, faster, easier experience.
Columbia is looking for a User Experience (UX) Designer II to work with other User Experience professionals to translate features into the design of engaging experiences across user journeys. This role supports delivery of the best digital experience for the consumer by supporting the innovation, iteration, and optimization of omnichannel digital touchpoints.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
  • Develops and executes UX design specifications including interactive prototypes to assist research and feature development. Collaborates with other UX professionals through design issues, conceptualizing new feature enhancements, as well as designing storyboards, workflows, interactions, and wireframes. Utilizes and maintains existing frameworks and libraries to rapidly iterate high fidelity prototyping.
  • Effectively collaborates with other user experience professionals. Actively participates in design sprints contributing to journey mapping and solution ideation.
  • Actively participates in team collaboration regarding specific projects and initiatives to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment of expectations and communication.
  • Actively participates in design review sessions providing constructive feedback on deliverables to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Contributes to the development of a pattern component library so current design can be applied and tested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

YOU ARE
  • Able to develop, design and test demonstrable formats
  • Familiar of UX design principles and methodologies as they relate to software development
  • Collaborative and strong in written and verbal communication
  • Able and willing to stay abreast of, learn and apply new products, technologies, and consumer behavior trends

YOU HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, graphic design, design communication, human-computer interaction or similar field, applicable certification, or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires 2-4 years of professional experience, and general proficiency with tools, systems, and procedures required to accomplish the job
  • User experience design portfolio of relevant product design work
  • Demonstrated knowledge working with the capabilities of HTML, DHTML, CSS and AJAX-based applications
    • Solid time management and prioritization skills; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of their development.
  • Experience leveraging agentic AI tools (e.g., Cursor, Figma AI capabilities) to accelerate design workflows, ideation, and prototyping.
  • Experience with video editing and storytelling using modern video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar tools) to support user engagement and design communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to create elegant, innovative, and out-of-the-box UX solutions, with strong communication skills to effectively articulate and influence design decisions across cross-functional stakeholder groups.
