Salary: $15.00-$17.00/hr

The mainmissionof the City Rescue Mission of Lansing, since its founding, has remainedto teach the Word of God as found in the Christian Bible (Romans 10:13-15), edify and equip the saints to be committed followers of Jesus Christ and His teachings (Ephesians 4:11-13), and present an authentic representation of traditional, Biblical Christianity (Philippians 1:9-11). For this reason, employees will be guided by the Doctrinal Statementestablishedby theBoard ofDirectors.

Reports To:Kitchen Supervisor andFood Services Director.


Job Overview:

This role is vitalto the Success of the City Rescue Mission.TheAssistanteither helps prepare or entirely prepares the dinner for the 150+ guests we serve.The Assistant must have an excellent grasp on food safety, multitask well, and be able tomaintaina cleanand organizedworkstationunder pressure.TheAssistantmust be friendly and encouraging whilemaintainingshelter policy and procedure with consistency and firmness. TheAssistantmust also be able to complete tasks independently and accurately, meeting deadlines every time. The Assistant must be able to enforce food safety rules and City Rescue Mission policiestostaff, volunteers, and guests in a consistent and caring manner.


Expected Schedule-1stShift- The Kitchen Assistant needs to be available from 10am to 4pm.Holidaysand Weekendsas Scheduled, Rotation.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prep, Cook, and Complete Meals for 150+ guests following the pre-assigned menu/recipes, both independently and with other staff and volunteers
  • Adapt recipes tolarge quantities, ensuringaccuratemeasurements
  • FollowServSaferules/procedures ensuring food safety for all meals leaving the kitchen
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace, cleaning and organizing as you work
  • Process donations, organize and sort storage spaces, and complete a myriad of cleaning tasks as needed/assigned
  • Be a good steward of donations, adapting planned meals as needed to reduce waste
  • Oversee volunteers, ensuring their time is used wisely and to the benefit of the City Rescue Mission
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as scheduled
  • Show the love of Christ, be ready to share the gospel, and pray with guestsregularly

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma-Required
  • ServSafeCertified or able to be Certified within90 daysof Employment-Required
  • Commercial Cooking or Catering Experience-Preferred
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Suite-Preferred

Skills

  • Ability to adapt a recipe to a large scale and follow the recipe accurately
  • Ability to keep a clean, sanitized work environmentat all times
  • Ability to proficiently use a phone system that spans multiple facilities- including answering, transferring, putting calls on hold, etc. Within15 daysof introduction.
  • Ability to respectfully interact with guests and volunteers no matter their background, temperament, preferences, or life choices
  • Detail oriented, organized, thorough, andpossessingthe ability to multitask well
  • Ability to constantly assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of all work assignments

  • Be ready at all timesto give an answer of the Hope that lies within the committed follower of Christ, as outlined in the Christian Bible, with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).
  • Live everyday life in submission to the authority of the Christian Bible (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
  • Commit to continual training under those called to teach the doctrines of the faith and the Word of God, as well as to seek out fellowship with other believers (Hebrews 10:24-25), asevidencedby being a member in good standing in a local evangelical church.

Environment

TheKitchen Assistantwill need to be able to consistently work in a noisy anddistraction-filledenvironment.TheAssistantstask will occasionally require them to work in low temperatures,high temperatures, outdoor elements (e.g.rain, wind, snow),and small/enclosed spaces.

Physical Requirements-

Thebelow listed abilitiesare required tobe able to complete the essential duties of the role:

TheKitchen Assistantwill need to be able to navigate stairs-quickly and proficiently navigatingup to2flights of stairs whenever needed. They will constantly need to be able to lift 25lbs in all directionsand will occasionally need to lift 50lbs in all directions.They will need to be able to complete 1-2 hours of physically taxing work without a break and stand or walk for 3+hours without sitting down.They will occasionally need to complete 3+ hours of physically taxing work withoutabreak.

TheKitchen Assistantwill need to be able to constantly complete visual scans of indoor/outdoor areasinvarying levels of light. They will need to occasionally complete tasks with repetitive motions that include thewrists,handsand/or fingers. They will need to be able to constantly communicate clearly with others to exchange information.
