Job Duties:
Reporting to the Divisional Finance Officer, the Financial Manager supports the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success (SEMSS) by managing divisional budgets, assisting with financial planning and analysis, and providing leadership in financial reporting and compliance.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in managing financial activities across SEMSS departments. Serve as the Lead Worker for SEMSS financial staff and department clients.
  • Coordinate data management, budget preparation, and financial reporting.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on financial operations and recommend process improvements.
  • Evaluate funding strategies and make recommendations for enhancement.
  • Audit financial transactions and authorize payments.
  • Ensure compliance with fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly reports and financial statements.
  • Support procurement and travel processes.
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for financial systems.
  • Assist with grant and gift fund monitoring, including pre- and post-award processes.
  • Contribute to proposal development for external funding.

Department:
The Division of Strategic Enrollment Management & Student Success (SEMSS) takes a holistic approach to support students throughout all stages of the enrollment lifecycle, from prospective students, transfer students, and continuing students to our graduates and alumni. The SEMSS team is a reliable and active partner on campus, in Milwaukee, and across Wisconsin.
Compensation:
$75,000 - $90,000 (Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience)
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or commensurate experience.

  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting.

  • Experience in financial reporting and data analysis.

  • Demonstrated understanding of budget preparation and management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial management in a higher education setting.

  • Experience with grant and gift fund management.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., MS Excel, Workday, PowerBI, Tableau).

  • Experience with university procurement and travel systems.

  • Experience advising or training staff on financial systems.

  • Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by application materials and interview(s).

Physical Requirements
Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods, attend meetings across campus, and occasionally lift and carry financial documents or equipment.
Education:
Associate's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or commensurate experience.
