Department: Athletics

Reports To: Head of School

Classification: Exempt/ 12 months Full-time 

Notre Dame High School, a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Trenton, is a dynamic, diverse Catholic community dedicated to educating young women and men to realize their full potential through a faith-filled environment, a challenging college-preparatory program, extensive co-curricular activities and a commitment to citizenship and service in the community. 

Position Overview: 

Notre Dame High School is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and mission-driven Athletic Director to oversee and lead its comprehensive athletics program. The Athletic Director will be responsible for the administration, development, and strategic direction of all interscholastic athletic programs in alignment with the school/s Mercy Core Values.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Administration

Provide vision, leadership, and direction for all varsity, junior varsity, and freshman athletic programs

Hire, supervise, evaluate, and mentor all head and assistant coaches

Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring responsible fiscal stewardship

Coordinate and schedule all home and away athletic games, practices, and facility usage

Oversee and manage athletic facilities, equipment inventory, and maintenance needs

Compliance & Eligibility

Ensure full compliance with Diocesan, State, MCTA, and NJSIAA rules and regulations for all sports programs

Monitor and certify student-athlete eligibility in coordination with the Registrar and academic staff

Maintain accurate records for all athletes, coaches, and programs as required by state and local policy

Student-Athlete Development

Foster a culture of academic excellence, character development, and sportsmanship among all student-athletes

Champion student-athlete wellness, mental health awareness, and injury prevention initiatives

Oversee sports award programs, Hall of Fame nominations, and post-season recognition Events

Community & Communication

Serve as a positive ambassador for Notre Dame athletics to students, parents, alumni, and the broader community

Communicate proactively with parents, coaches, and administration regarding program updates and issues

Safety & Risk Management

Develop and enforce concussion protocols, emergency action plans, and athlete safety procedures

Ensure all coaches maintain current first aid, CPR, and applicable coaching certifications

Coordinate with school nurse and athletic trainers to provide appropriate medical oversight

Qualifications: Applicant must have successful coaching experience on the high school or collegiate levels, hold a Master's Degree and a School Administrator Certificate. Preferably someone with 5 years proven experience as an athletic director, supervisor, or school administrator with relevant experience.
