Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Financial Operations manages the technical processes for the Office of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Director of Student Financial Operations, this position is a key partner in all critical technical processes, focusing on the implementation and administration of various systems to support the goals of Financial Aid and Enrollment Management. This includes enhancing both prospective and current student experience while ensuring regulatory compliance. The position is vital to the success of financial aid operations.
The Assistant Director must be able to work both collaboratively and independently in the management of project initiatives, reporting deadlines, and the ever-changing business needs of the department. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with campus partners, particularly Information Technology, Student Accounts, Admissions, Marketing, Communications, Finance, and the Registrar's Office.
Essential Duties
  • Assists with the annual Banner Financial Aid module setup and required maintenance to ensure financial aid is administered according to federal, state, and institutional guidelines, including evaluating and testing system upgrades to the Banner Financial Aid module.
  • Assists with troubleshooting operational and technology issues.
  • Manages aid period, financial aid requirements, and fund assignment rules in the Banner Financial Aid module.
  • Manages the Direct Loan Program, vouchering process, monthly reconciliation, and year-end closeout.
  • Manages the Pell Grant Program, monthly reconciliation, and year-end closeout.
  • Manages the import of alternative loan files via ELM into Banner.
  • Manages the monthly reconciliation of alternative loans.
  • Works with La Salle partners and leverages the expertise of IT to design and test required reporting from various platforms, including Argos.
  • Monitors daily Enterprise Scheduler workflows and assists with the setup of Financial Aid-specific functions, including workflow design, maintenance, and creation of new service requests.
  • Manages the daily transmission reports for all federal files (ISIR, Pell, Direct Loan, etc.) via EdConnect and TDClient.
  • Monitors technical and non-technical financial aid forums (Ellucian e-communities, PA-BUG, FSA PartnerConnect, Finaid-L, NASFAA) and communicate changes/defects/work-arounds to the Financial Aid team as required.
  • Participates in ongoing training to maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial aid regulations and attends relevant professional conferences and meetings such as PA-BUG (PA Banner Users' Group).

Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assists with division-wide events and initiatives, as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Financial Operations or designee.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience with increasing responsibility in Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Banking, or another related field.
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills and expertise in relevant tools and technologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on objective data while applying complex regulations and institutional policies.
  • Must be in good standing in all Federal Title IV programs.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree and seven (7) years of experience in higher education.
  • Experience using Ellucian's Banner or other Student Information System.
  • Experience with Enterprise Scheduler, Federal COD, NSLDS Systems, TDClient, and/or EdConnect.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Lasallian Values.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
  • This is an on-site role and requires regular on-campus, in-person work to support departmental operations, collaborate with campus partners, and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Evening and weekend work will be necessary during peak times.
