Purpose:

FinWise Bank (the "Bank") is seeking an experienced Credit Analyst to join our Credit Department Servicing Team. This role is ideal for an experienced analyst or an analyst with some experience that is willing to learn who wants to contribute meaningfully to the maintenance of a sound credit environment. This position is ideal for a credit professional that has experience in credit analysis/monitoring, credit administration, loan documentation, and a thorough understanding of banking practices and regulatory standards. Prior experience working with SBA or Owner-Occupied loans and knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures is preferred but not required. Prior experience with Abrigo/Sage works is preferred but not required. Experience with personal tax returns is a plus.

The Credit Analyst will work in the Bank's Credit Department reporting to the Director of Portfolio Management and will help support the Credit Department by requesting updated financials from borrowers, performing detailed, global financial analysis, updating ticklers, analyzing collateral, and preparing credit review presentations to properly risk rate existing loans by identifying strengths and weaknesses.

The Credit Analyst will be responsible for helping to analyze and monitor an existing portfolio of loans, which is comprised primarily of SBA 7(a), owner-occupied conventional commercial, 1-4 family construction, retail point of sale, and other business lines. In addition, the Credit Analyst will ensure credit monitoring and administration activities are executed in accordance with Bank Policies and with regulatory standards, including CFR Part 364 - Standards for Safety and Soundness.

Tasks:

  • Obtain, review, and interpret commercial financial statements, including CPA- and Company-Prepared balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Analyze federal tax returns (business and personal), including detailed schedules, pass-through income, depreciation, and K1s.-through income, depreciation, and K-1s.
  • Perform analysis on borrowers to evaluate liquidity, leverage, profitability, and efficiency.
  • Calculate debt service coverage and repayment capacity for commercial borrowers. Having experience with doing global cash flows or being able to learn how to do global cash flow is key, in addition to analysis on the Company/Corporate Guarantors.
  • Prepare reviews including financial condition, risks, collateral, and guarantor strength.
  • Assess borrower risk profiles and make a well-supported loan grade (aka risk rating) recommendations commensurate with Bank policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Identify emerging risks or deteriorating trends and recommend appropriate credit actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date loan files, including verification of insurance coverage, tax returns, personal financial statements, confirmation that property taxes are paid, and other financial documentation.
  • Assist the Director of Portfolio Management with other credit administration functions.
  • Participate in the onboarding of a new Loan Origination System (LOS), Abigo/Sage Works, and the uploading of Bank's loan portfolio into LOS.
  • Ensure maintenance of Bank credit standards through communication with Credit department staff.
  • Work to recognize and take advantage of opportunities to develop solutions to challenges.
  • Support other Bank departments as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in analyzing commercial loan structures, financial statements, and collateral documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple loan files effectively and independently.
  • Strong organization, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to meet time constraints and effectively communicate to achieve goals identified by senior management and supervised staff.
  • Knowledge of commercial due diligence, commercial loan documentation, and business entity documentation.
  • Ability to clearly communicate deficiencies for timely resolution to balance customer needs with program requirements.

Required Education / Experience / License:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in credit analysis in a banking or financial services environment.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience or ability to learn how to do analysis/cash flow of companies and ideally global flow involving individuals, corporate guarantors, and real estate holding companies, combined.

Preferred Education /Experience / License:

  • Formal credit training or certification in commercial credit analysis (CCRA, CBA, CCE, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures, Loan Origination (SOP 50 10), and Loan Servicing & Liquidation (SOP 50 57).
  • NAGGL Training and Certifications

  • Sit or stand at a computer for extended periods of time and look at a computer screen for several hours a day.
