About the Opportunity

The Assembly SMT Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining SMT production equipment used in the assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs) such as Pick & Place, Screen Printer, AOI, X-Ray machines etc. This role ensures high-quality electronic assemblies by following standard operating procedures, work instructions, and quality requirements. Performs assembly using a combination of SMT and through-hole parts, reworking SMT boards, assembling cables and mechanical assembly of Printed Circuit Assemblies.

What You'll Do:

  • Reads and understands customers drawing(s), SOPs, work instructions, equipment manuals and requirements specified in the manufacturing traveler
  • Interpret J-STD and IPC 610 standards for acceptability and customer specifications
  • Verifies assembly traveler quantity to final count and notify management in cases of discrepancy
  • Verifies correct part numbers being used for the specific job being run
  • Performs hand placement as needed
  • Monitors the output of machines to ensure quality
  • Ensures the quality of product produced on the SMT line (correct parts, polarity, etc)
  • Uses various SMT tooling, solder paste stencil, PCB fixtures
  • Performs rework of SMT components, visual inspection, hand solder and de-solder
  • Performs visual inspections of SMT assemblies
  • Troubleshoots and perform simple repairs when machines are not functioning properly
  • Assists in performing machine preventative maintenance on screen printer and pick and place machines based on assigned schedules.
  • Performs all other job tasks as needed and assigned

What You'll Bring:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Ability to read and understand customer drawing, requirement, SOPs, work instruction, manufacturing traveler and safety rules
  • Knowledge of or previously certified in J-STD-001, IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronics Assemblies and ESD control requirement
  • Must be familiar with Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) electronic components and SMT assembly process.
  • Ability to use a microscope, SMT equipment, screen printer, AOI and x-ray machines
  • Ability to program, set-up and process the jobs
  • Must be proficient in PCB soldering including SMT and thru-hole technology and have familiarity with electronic components.
  • Ability to use small hand tools including soldering iron, pliers, crimpers, screwdrivers and measuring devices
  • Familiarity with different CAD data formats such as Gerber data
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Near Vision Requirement: 20/20 minimum one eye with corrected glasses or not corrected
  • Willing to work overtime as needed

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of Assembly SMT experience in PCB or electronics manufacturing and assembly industry

Please note that in addition to frequent standing and walking, the work environment requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 25 pounds; as well as repetitive hand and finger motion.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 1st Shift: 7:30am to 4:00pm
  • Overtime and Weekends as required

The actual compensation offered is based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant business considerations.
