Job description

Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. is hiring for an experienced ASPHALT PAVING STAFF for our Coeur D’Alene, ID location. This position will operate paving equipment used for applying asphalt to road beds, parking lots, airport runways and taxiways, and driveways. Applicable positions include: asphalt paver operator, screed operator, roller operator, tack truck driver, asphalt raker and general laborer.

About Us: Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. opened in 1982 and is a privately held contracting company specializing in commercial paving and heavy highway construction. Started and based in Moses Lake, WA the company has grown to include locations in Wenatchee, Benton City, Yakima, Coulee City, WA and Milton-Freewater, OR and Coeur D’Alene, ID. Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. does projects throughout Eastern Washington, Northern Oregon and Northern Idaho. Since 2005 Central Washington Asphalt has received the "First Place Quality Award" from the Washington State Department of Transportation 10 times for work completed on WSDOT projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate asphalt paving equipment to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications as instructed by crew superintendent to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
  • Screed operation on the asphalt paver involves making normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade, and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls.
  • Ability to operate, or initiative to learn to operate, other equipment required on an asphalt crew
  • May oil, grease, service, and make normal operating adjustments to the equipment
  • Ability to operate asphalt paver/screed within designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship
  • Ability to guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver.
  • Manipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of machine, spreading and leveling asphalt on subgrade of highway and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry; including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.
  • Also, must perform additional tasks of other positions as needed and instructed by foreman.

Qualification/Requirement

  • One to two years related asphalt and road construction experience preferred
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Be willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary.
  • Must have a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a team setting

Communication skills

  • Ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the general public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
