Senior roles or those with specialized skills in RPG or CL programming may command higher salaries, especially in industries like finance or healthcare that rely heavily on legacy systems.

What does an AS400 developer do?

A typical day for an AS400 Developer involves writing, testing, and troubleshooting code in RPG, COBOL, or CL for business-critical applications running on IBM iSeries systems. Developers often work closely with business analysts, system administrators, and other IT professionals to gather requirements, implement system enhancements, and ensure data integrity within DB2 databases. Daily tasks may also include resolving production issues, performing regular maintenance, and participating in code reviews or deployment planning.
