Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
The Residency Program Director is responsible for: Providing residents with direct experience in progressive responsibility for patient management. Monitoring the quality of the overall education and training program. Ensuring that the program is in compliance with the policies of the respective accrediting or certifying bodies. Defining the levels of responsibilities for each year of training by preparing a description of the types of clinical activities residents may perform. Each training program must be constructed to encourage and permit residents to assume increasing levels of responsibility relative to their individual progress in experience, skill, knowledge, and judgment. Annually, at the time of promotion or more frequently as appropriate,
this document, along with a list of residents assigned to each year or level of training, is provided to the relevant VA Site Director, Service Chief, COS, and DEO. Annually will give residents permission to engage in any clinical activity outside the scope of their current training program as part of their residency training experience.
Duties as Residency Director include but are not limited to:
Develop, implement, and evaluate the curriculum, didactic and educational activities for residents. Prepare and manage the program budget, including resident stipends and educational resources. Review resident logs at least on monthly basis. Attend in person Centralized Residency Interview Program (CRIP) and participate in the National Match service to select new resident(s) each year, cost will be covered by the hospital if budget allows. Participation costs will be provided by CRIP if local funding is unavailable.
Resident Oversight and Mentorship: Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to residents, fostering their professional and personal growth. Conduct at a minimum semiannual evaluations of resident performance, providing constructive feedback and addressing areas for improvement as well as reviewing projected attainment of MAVs, and completed
rotation evaluations. Support residents in their career development and post-residency placement.
Accreditation and Compliance: Ensure program compliance with all accreditation requirements from bodies such as the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) as outlined in CPME 320 document. Prepare and submit required documentation for accreditation and program reviews. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in accreditation standards and implement necessary program adjustments. Attend required yearly residency director training courses as dictated by CPME. The cost for these trainings will be covered by hospital budget.
Faculty Development and Collaboration: Recruit, develop, and evaluate faculty and clinical instructors involved in the residency program. Foster a collaborative environment between faculty, residents, and other medical staff to enhance educational and clinical outcomes. Facilitate regular faculty meetings to discuss program improvements, resident progress, and faculty development needs.
Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday

- Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- You may be required to serve a probationary period.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Podiatrist Basic Requirements:
- Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
- Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
- Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: Board Certification by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery or other nationally recognized Board is required. Completion of a Podiatry Surgical Residency. Previous experience as residency program director is highly preferred. Background in academics, teaching, and leadership is also preferred.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing; clear, distinctive speech; and manual dexterity. The position requires potentially long periods of continued sitting, telephone and computer usage, walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring equipment/objects may be required.
Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
- Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
- Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted.
- For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
