Job description

Position Summary
Maryville University seeks experienced, innovative Learning Designers to join the MyMBA development initiative. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), fellow designers, and program leadership to design and build high-quality, ACBSP-accredited MBA courses. You'll leverage your expertise in platforms such as Articulate Rise and Instructure Canvas (LMS) to transform SME-authored content into engaging, accessible, and outcomes-driven online learning experiences that set a new standard for personalized business education. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a first-to-market, modular MBA program designed for scale, flexibility, and impact.
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with SMEs and the program lead to design and develop online MBA courses that meet instructional quality, engagement, and accreditation standards.
  • Transform content (Word documents) into polished, interactive course modules using platforms such as Articulate Rise and Instructure Canvas (LMS), adhering to established MyMBA templates and workflows.
  • Apply adult learning theory (e.g., andragogy, self-directed learning principles) appropriate for an audience of working professionals pursuing graduate-level education.
  • Design valid, reliable learning activities and assessments mapped to Bloom's Taxonomy, and real-world business applications.
  • Ensure accessibility and universal design (WCAG 2.1 AA compliance) across all course materials.
  • Maintain project timelines and deliverables, ensuring on-time completion and minimal revision rounds.
  • Engage in quality assurance processes, including peer review and feedback cycles
  • Contribute to a collaborative, innovative team culture focused on student success and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience designing and developing online learning experiences, preferably at the graduate education or corporate level.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Articulate Rise and/or Instructure Canvas (LMS).
  • Strong portfolio of completed eLearning projects, with evidence of measurable learning outcomes and learner engagement. Work created in Articulate Rise is preferred.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, backward design).
  • Experience collaborating with SMEs and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • Commitment to accessibility, diversity, and inclusive instructional practices.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field.
  • Experience working with the Mighty Blocks plug-in for Articulate Rise.
  • Experience with large-scale or contract-based program development.
  • Experience designing for business education, MBA-level content, and/or working professionals.
  • An understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Asana, Slack, Zoom).

Tools & Technology
  • Primary Authoring Tool: Articulate Rise and/or Instructure Canvas (LMS)
  • LMS: Instructure Canvas
  • Project Management: Asana
  • Communication: Slack, Microsoft Outlook, Zoom

Note: Specific tools will be confirmed during onboarding.
Onboarding & Support
Selected designers will participate in a structured onboarding process that includes:
  • Orientation to the MyMBA program vision, brand guidelines, and course templates.
  • Training on established workflows, review cycles, and quality expectations.
  • Introduction to the project management and communication tools used by the team.
