Area Dams, Levees, Civil Works Business Class Leader

HDR is looking for the Florida Dams, Levees, Civil Works (DLCW) Business Class Leader to serve as part of the Area's technical leadership team within the Florida Water Business Group. The Florida DLCW Business Class Lead is responsible for the vision, strategy, direction, risk management and overall success of their team within the Water Business Group. We will count on you to lead a group of professionals in project delivery (studies, planning documents, risk assessments, and design and/or construction support services) for our clients in the technical areas of dams; spillways; reservoirs; levees; coastal, flood, and riverine risk management, site / civil for local, state, and federal clients; and regulatory compliance. In this key leadership position, we will count on you to:

  • Coordinate, monitor, and lead technical competencies of business class staff and delivery production, including best practices, technical development, and mentorship
  • Manage workload for staff within the DLCW Business Class
  • Serve as a supervisor and mentor of DLCW as well as Water Resources staff as needed
  • Provide project leadership as a PM or technical leader for the delivery of project services to meet client expectations and HDR quality expectations
  • Collaborate on business class efforts with Florida leadership including the WBG Manager, Professional Services Leader, Business Development Manager and Area Manager
  • Collaborate on business class efforts with DLCWs regional and national leadership, including the DLCWs Director, Technical Director, Regional Leader, Practice Leaders (Dams, Levees, Risk and Floodplains), and DLCWs area leads (peers)
  • Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews
  • Serve on pursuit teams for new opportunities, as either a pursuit leader or technical leader, providing expertise and knowledge of HDR's staff, tools and capabilities
  • Engage in close collaboration with the area-level marketing team, including the Business Development Manager, Client Managers, Market Sector Leaders, and even East Region / National leadership
  • Provide leadership on the implementation of project QA/QC procedures and live HDR's culture of quality
  • Technical conference planning and work with the WRM MS Leader to develop a strategy for our technical brand

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Professional Engineer in Florida or ability to obtain Florida PE license within 6 months
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse project team; and travel as required for project or other business assignments
  • Ability to function as an active team player in a diverse multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience with supervising staff and with business development

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
