What is an architectural coordinator?

An Architectural Coordinator is a professional who oversees and manages the coordination of architectural projects, ensuring that designs are implemented according to plans, codes, and client requirements. They act as a liaison between architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to facilitate clear communication and smooth project execution. Their responsibilities often include reviewing drawings, managing project timelines, and resolving technical issues that arise during the construction process. Architectural Coordinators play a key role in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

How does an architectural coordinator typically collaborate with other project stakeholders during a construction project?

An Architectural Coordinator plays a key role in facilitating communication between architects, engineers, contractors, and clients throughout the life cycle of a construction project. They are responsible for ensuring that design intent is maintained while addressing technical and regulatory requirements. This often involves attending coordination meetings, reviewing drawings and specifications, and managing documentation to resolve conflicts and keep the project on schedule. Effective collaboration skills are essential, as the coordinator must balance input from multiple parties and help ensure that the project progresses smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an architectural coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Architectural Coordinator, you need a strong background in architectural design, project management, and construction documentation, usually supported by a degree in architecture or a related field. Familiarity with CAD/BIM software (such as AutoCAD and Revit), building codes, and regulatory compliance is typically required. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills help facilitate collaboration among architects, engineers, and contractors. These skills and qualities ensure the successful coordination and execution of architectural projects while meeting client and regulatory requirements.

MCG specializes in retail, mixed-use, hospitality, restaurant, office, self-storage, land-planning, national-account, renovation, and tenant-improvement projects.

WHO THIS POSITION IS BEST FOR
This opportunity is best suited for an organized and motivated early-career architectural professional who enjoys Revit production, project coordination, and learning how commercial projects are designed, documented, permitted, and constructed.
The ideal candidate wants meaningful project responsibility, values feedback and mentorship, and is interested in growing into a Job Captain, Project Architect, or project-management position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and update Revit models under the direction of senior project staff.
  • Produce plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, diagrams, and presentation materials.

  • Follow through on assignments and communicate potential schedule or coordination issues.
  • Progressively assume ownership of small projects or defined project components.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge, code understanding, and project-delivery skills.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related design discipline.
  • Candidates completing an accredited architecture program may be considered when supported by relevant internship experience and a strong portfolio.
  • Approximately 2-5+ years of architectural experience.

  • Strong organization, accuracy, communication, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and deadline-driven environment.
  • Willingness to learn and accept constructive feedback.
  • Interest in pursuing architectural licensure.
  • Desire to grow into a Job Captain, Project Architect, or project-management role.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Base salary of $65,000-$85,000, depending on experience, education, technical capability, and commercial project exposure.
  • Two performance bonuses each year.
  • Employer-paid employee health benefits.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
