Job description

A/E Project Accountant / Senior Project Accountant

Architecture & Engineering Firms (Ongoing Search)
San Francisco Bay Area | Full-time | Hybrid or In-office (role dependent)

Building Talent focuses on accounting and finance roles within architecture and engineering firms across the San Francisco Bay Area. This posting reflects the types of roles we commonly see as A/E firms grow, expand project portfolios, and strengthen their finance teams.

We are specifically seeking professionals with direct experience in architecture and/or engineering firms — not general construction or corporate accounting backgrounds.

Core Responsibilities

  • Project setup, budgets, fee tracking, and financial reporting

  • Client billing by phase, percentage complete, or milestone

  • WIP tracking, utilization support, and revenue recognition in a fee-based environment

  • Subconsultant invoicing and coordination

  • Close collaboration with Project Managers, Studio Leaders, and Principals

Senior-level roles may include oversight of multiple studios or mentoring junior project accounting staff.

Required Experience

  • 3+ years of project accounting experience within an architecture or engineering firm

  • Strong understanding of fee-based project structures and utilization-driven environments

  • Confidence partnering directly with PMs and leadership

Preferred Software

  • Deltek Vantagepoint or Deltek Vision (highly preferred)

  • Ajera or similar A/E project accounting platforms

  • Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, complex formulas; Power Query a plus)

If your background aligns, we'll reach out directly to start a conversation — whether for an active search or an upcoming opportunity.

Let's Chat.

Note: These roles are based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Candidates should currently reside locally or be able to reliably work on-site as required. U.S. work authorization is required.
