Property Accounting Clerk (AP Focused)
Location: Bergen County, NJ Area
Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite (100%)
Employment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000
A growing real estate and property management organization is seeking an Accounts Payable / Accounting Associate to join its accounting team. This position is ideal for someone with strong high-volume, full-cycle Accounts Payable experience who is looking to expand their accounting knowledge and grow into a future Staff Accountant role.
This is a fast-paced environment requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Process high-volume accounts payable transactions, averaging 250+ invoices per week
  • Perform full-cycle AP functions including invoice entry, coding, approval workflows, payment processing, check runs, ACH/EFT payments, Positive Pay, and vendor reconciliations
  • Review invoices and supporting documentation for accuracy, proper entity/property allocation, GL coding, approvals, and supporting backup
  • Assist with accounts receivable activities including cash receipts, billing support, collections, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and assist with month-end close activities
  • Enter journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records
  • Support general ledger maintenance and account analysis
  • Assist with financial reporting and various accounting projects
  • Work closely with management to identify process improvements and enhance accounting accuracy
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on accounting, bookkeeping, or accounts payable experience
  • Demonstrated experience handling full-cycle Accounts Payable in a high-volume environment
  • Strong understanding of:
    • General ledger accounting
    • Accrual and cash-basis accounting
    • Expense coding and account classifications
    • Prepaids and accruals
    • Journal entries
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Financial statement concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to independently verify the accuracy of work
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple properties, deadlines, and recurring accounting responsibilities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including:
    • Pivot Tables
    • VLOOKUPs
    • Data Analysis Functions
  • Microsoft Word proficiency required
  • Experience with MRI and/or Yardi Voyager highly preferred
Education
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Relevant accounting experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
