Position Overview

GPT Renewables is seeking Apprentice Electricians and Apprentice Solar Installers to support commercial rooftop and utility-scale solar projects throughout Upstate New York, New Hampshire, and future projects in Massachusetts.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the renewable energy industry. Candidates with residential solar experience, basic electrical knowledge, or even those who are eager to learn with a strong work ethic and positive attitude are encouraged to apply.

Candidates located in or near Albany, NY are strongly preferred.

Compensation: $22.00-$30.00/hour (DOE)

Per Diem: $50.00 per workday

Lodging: Provided by the client Sunday-Thursday

Start Date: 8/17/2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Journeyman and Lead Electricians with electrical installation on commercial and utility-scale solar projects.
  • Install conduit, wire, cable tray, grounding systems, and electrical equipment.
  • Assist with installing combiner boxes, switchgear, transformers, and inverters.
  • Support installation and commissioning of SMA Sunny Central 2660 UP-US central inverters.
  • On commercial rooftop projects, assist with installing racking systems and solar modules in addition to electrical work.
  • Read and follow construction drawings, installation plans, and work instructions.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Follow all OSHA, NEC, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support successful project completion.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of electrical, construction, or solar experience preferred.
  • Residential solar electrical and mechanical installation experience is a plus.
  • Basic electrical knowledge preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable traveling weekly for project assignments.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Willingness to travel weekly throughout New Hampshire and Upstate New York.
  • Ability to work outdoors in active construction environments and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
