Methods Machine Tools was established in 1958 with three employees and a handful of refurbished machines. Since then, the company has become one of the largest privately owned machine tool importers in North America.
Methods designs and implements custom machining setups, including machine tool selection, automation integration, and turnkey automation cells. The corporate campus in Sudbury, Mass., comprises a showroom/technical center, which contains automation, applications, and a full range of cutting-edge machines. Methods has more than 300 employees, nine technology centers, one high precision machining center, and has installed more than 40,000 machines throughout North America.
Job Summary:
The Applications Engineer will have access to state-of-the-art CNC EDM machines and software to provide EDM applications solutions for our customers, nationwide.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Time studies, process recommendations and work holding concepts.
  • Demonstrating EDM equipment on new and existing applications.
  • Machining customer parts to show machine capabilities.
  • Training of customers at Method's facilities and customer facilities nationwide.
  • Programming of customer parts on CNC machines.
  • Debugging and setting up of complete machine tool turnkey systems.
  • Managing tasks to a specific timeline and meeting delivery dates.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Wire EDM programming and operation experience.
  • Familiarity with machining operations.
  • Experience with precision measurement equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with both co-workers and customers
  • EDM Machining Experience (5 years minimum)

Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science is preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in EDM applications engineering required.
  • Design experience and development of programmed applications highly preferred.
  • Prior experience with Fanuc controls is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience with CAM-I is highly preferred; experience with Mastercam or Esprit a plus

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May provide training to others.

Travel Requirements:
  • Approximately 25% of time, primarily domestic, with occasional international travel.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
