Job description

ATC Automation is seeking an experienced Concept and Quotation Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will develop accurate cost estimates and create compelling proposals for custom automation systems tailored to customer requirements. You will evaluate customer drawings, tolerances, production goals, and technical specifications to determine project feasibility and ensure accurate solutions.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience in custom automation and machine building, along with the ability to conceptualize innovative equipment solutions. You will use SolidWorks and supporting software to develop conceptual machine designs while collaborating closely with leadership, engineering, and sales teams to deliver impactful presentations, 3D renderings, and proposal packages that support business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop machine and tooling layouts for proposed automation systems and custom equipment solutions.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to define, evaluate, and refine assembly and manufacturing solutions.
  • Create preliminary and final cost estimates using Excel and related estimating tools.
  • Develop estimated operator task times for proposed manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Prepare detailed written proposals utilizing Word, SolidWorks outputs, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Conceptualize cost-effective assembly machines, automation systems, and test equipment solutions.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies, products, and processes relevant to proposed machine concepts.
  • Present technical proposals, concepts, and recommendations to customers and internal stakeholders, addressing questions and feedback.
  • Produce high-quality written and visual documentation, including 3D renderings and supporting sales materials.
  • Maintain project timelines and priorities to ensure alignment with customer deadlines and sales objectives.
  • Travel periodically as required to support customer meetings and project activities.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 7+ years of experience in custom automation, machine building, or related engineering environments.
  • Experience with custom automation quoting, cost estimating, and proposal development is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, machine design, geometric tolerancing, and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems used in automated machinery.
  • General understanding of electrical and pneumatic control systems.
  • Familiarity with machining and fabrication processes, including lathe work, milling, boring, and welding.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and customers.
