Job Title: Senior Appian Developer
Location: Onsite (Hybrid) in McLean, VA on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Duration : 12+ Months
Job Description:
  • The Appian developer will be supporting 23 applications built in Appian. Plugins are written in Java and integrated into these applications. This role supports Appian Development work on an enterprise level.
  • Must have strong Appian Development experience along with development experience with another programming language (the Client highly prefers candidates who've had experience in Java), strong SQL querying skills (The client uses DB2, however experience in any relational database should suffice). The candidate should also have excellent communication skills.
  • Nice to have experience in working in an Agile environment, experience with Appian Architecture and support and experience in Jira, Bit bucket etc.

Must Haves: Must have 3+ years of hands-on experience in design, implementation, and production support of Appian BPM applications. Work experience must be with the latest Appian version 22.X or higher. Strong developer experience. Must have thorough understanding of relational databases, SQL, XML and web services (SOAP/REST).
Overview:
If you are a confident and self-motivated individual with a willingness to learn and adapt in a team environment, we are your next destination employer! Apply to join the Information Technology division of the Appian Center of Excellence (CoE) team to lead development, maintenance, and support for Appian BPM applications. In this role, you will be responsible for overall project delivery and operations. You will provide technical leadership and direction to a team of developers, while being very hands on at the same time.
Your work falls into three primary categories:
  1. Project Delivery and Operations
    • Design, develop, modify, integrate, test, deploy and support enterprise-level Appian based BPM applications.
    • Translate business process software requirement specifications into Appian process model prototypes and solutions.
    • Deliver projects in either Agile or Waterfall software development methodologies, as project dictates.
    • Design and implement complex enterprise integrations with industry standard technologies such as DB2Active Directory and the internal systems in the enterprise.
    • Design and implement complex integrations with downstream and upstream applications.
    • Design and implement custom plugins using Java framework.
    • Have good knowledge on Appian Infrastructure.
    • Develop and use library of reusable Appian components that can be leveraged in the enterprise.
    • Participate in the day-to-day activities of the Appian BPM and Java based plug-ins development.
  2. Technical Leadership
    • Support planning activities, such as impact assessments, level of effort analysis and developer task assignments.
    • Conduct and participate in detailed design reviews and validate that the design follows the approved architecture.
    • Conduct regular code reviews to ensure best practices are being followed.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
    • Deliver knowledge transfer sessions to ramp up new development team members.
  3. Production Support
    • Participate in on-call production support rotation.
    • Jump into troubleshooting sessions if junior developers are unable to resolve production issues, and drive issues to resolutions.
    • Partner with IT Shared Services partners to resolve production issues.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience in Information Technology.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems or other related field or equivalent working experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in design, implementation, and production support of Appian BPM applications. Work experience must be with the latest Appian version 22.X or higher.
  • Have working knowledge of Appian architecture.
  • Have Appian cloud experience.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to analyze system functionality with customer and resolve production issues.
  • Experience in tuning the system for performance improvements and performance related system design.
  • Thorough understanding of relational databases, SQL, XML and web services (SOAP/REST).
  • Experience applying Object Oriented Analysis and Design principles.
  • Experience in building custom plugins using Appian Custom plugin framework.
  • Knowledge of business process modeling and optimization techniques, including orchestration of modeled process.
  • Sound exposure to Appian Infrastructure, network and enterprise scale environments.
  • Practical experience designing and building enterprise and/or distributed systems.
  • Experience with systems and software architecture.
