Job description

Functional Lead, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
Location: Miamisburg, OH (HQ)
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: IT Applications Manager
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt)
Level: IC
Summary
The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (E1) Functional Lead is an experienced individual contributor within the IT Applications team, serving as the organization’s in-house JDE subject matter expert. This role provides deep functional and technical expertise in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2, ensuring that solutions are aligned with system design principles, industry best practices, and long-term architectural strategy.
The Functional Lead works in close partnership with E1 Business Analysts, E1 Developers, and business stakeholders to design scalable, efficient solutions that maximize the value of the ERP investment. This is a hands-on, collaborative position that provides technical leadership, architectural guidance, and system expertise across Order-to-Cash (O2C), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Finance, and Supply Chain processes.
Why This Role Matters
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is the operational backbone of Covation Global’s business — touching every core process from order management and procurement to finance and supply chain. Without dedicated functional ownership, ERP solutions accumulate technical debt, customizations multiply, and system stability erodes over time. The Functional Lead is the person who prevents that — ensuring every enhancement, integration, and workflow is built the right way the first time, and that the platform remains scalable, maintainable, and strategically aligned for years to come.
What Success Looks Like (3 Core Outcomes):
  • Architecturally Sound, Future-Proof ERP Solutions: Every significant enhancement, integration, and workflow is designed to leverage native E1 functionality first, follows system design standards, and is built for long-term maintainability. Technical debt is actively reduced, not accumulated.
  • Measurable Business Process Improvement Across O2C and P2P: Manual processes and operational bottlenecks in Order-to-Cash and Procure-to-Pay lifecycles are identified and systematically eliminated. Business stakeholders experience tangible gains in efficiency, accuracy, and ERP adoption.
  • Trusted Technical Authority for the ERP Team and Business: Business Analysts, Developers, and business stakeholders consistently turn to this role for guidance on system capabilities, design decisions, and best practices. The Functional Lead is recognized as a reliable, solutions-oriented partner who elevates the entire team’s output.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide architectural guidance to Business Analysts and Developers to ensure solutions align with JDE design standards and best practices.
  • Evaluate and refine proposed enhancements and projects to ensure optimal use of native E1 functionality before customization.
  • Provide architectural guidance for integrations between JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and third-party systems, ensuring alignment with E1 design principles, data integrity standards, and long-term system maintainability.
  • Design scalable, efficient workflows aligned with operational goals and system capabilities.
  • Ensure consistency, sustainability, and long-term maintainability of all ERP solutions.
Collaboration amp; Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Partner closely with E1 Business Analysts to translate business requirements into well-architected ERP solutions.
  • Collaborate with E1 Developers to ensure technical designs align with functional intent and system standards.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, explaining system capabilities, constraints, and best practices.
  • Facilitate alignment between business process needs and ERP system functionality.
  • Support change management efforts through guidance, documentation, and user enablement.
Business Process Optimization
  • Provide expertise in Order-to-Cash (O2C) and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) lifecycles, identifying opportunities to eliminate manual processes and redundant tasks.
  • Conduct operational reviews to identify bottlenecks and recommend streamlined, scalable workflows.
  • Ensure business processes are designed to leverage standard JDE functionality whenever possible.
  • Drive measurable improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and system adoption.
  • Recommend continuous system improvements based on evolving business needs.
Technical amp; Functional Expertise
  • Configure, test, and deploy JDE E1 modules and enhancements.
  • Design and manage UDOs, Orchestrations, BI Publisher reports, and workflows.
  • Support CNC-related coordination activities such as package builds and environment promotions in collaboration with CNC resources.
  • Ensure data integrity, system performance, and operational stability.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex system issues.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field required; equivalent professional experience considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience with Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, including deep expertise in version 9.2.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a functional and technical subject matter expert within a mid-to-large enterprise ERP environment.
  • Proven experience architecting and optimizing solutions across Order-to-Cash and Procure-to-Pay lifecycles.
  • Experience collaborating with Business Analysts and Developers to translate business requirements into scalable ERP solutions.
  • Full lifecycle ERP experience including design, configuration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
  • Experience evaluating when to leverage standard functionality vs. customization to ensure long-term maintainability.
  • Hands-on experience configuring core JDE modules including Finance, Inventory, Sales, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and/or Supply Chain.
  • Experience supporting integrations between JDE and external systems.
  • Experience participating in system upgrades, tools releases, or major enhancements preferred.
