Director of Analytics & Strategy
General Description:
The Director of Analytics & Strategy leads the organization's reporting, visualizations, data mining, and analysis with the intent to inform decision-making on a variety of subjects including revenue generation, forecasting, lead scoring, and data systems integration. The department's primary function is to accelerate growth and success for the business units, while enabling data-driven decisions across the company, including the Houston Rockets, Houston Comets and Toyota Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for creating and implementing the display and distribution of data, measurement, and forecasting for company stakeholders.
  • Proactively consult with various departments and the executive team on topics necessitating in-depth dissection and analysis.
  • Partner with the SVP of Performance Marketing & Business Intelligence on revenue strategy. functions including rate card valuations, dynamic pricing, inventory management and paid media impact.
  • Lead various business processes including sales forecasting, lead scoring, market penetration and other predictive modelling efforts.
  • Oversee the data visualization strategy and maintain a user-friendly library of available data resources.
  • Plan and implement ways to source and track fan behavior, engagement, and retention, including loyalty and retention programs.
  • Partner with the Engineering & Innovation team on data warehouse efforts focused on data automation and integrations between data sources.
  • Develop the strategy, implementation and analysis for the organization's market research and consumer insights efforts.
  • Partner with Lifecycle Marketing team on database growth, nurturing and conversion initiatives.
  • Work with business leaders and colleagues to make actionable recommendations based on data insights.
  • Work closely with the NBA and WNBA on league-wide Analytics & Strategy initiatives.
  • Oversee team members providing guidance, training and career growth while optimizing their output.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, PROFICIENCIES & EXPERIENCE:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in data science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering,
  • Information Systems, Statistics, Economics, or a related field
  • Experience: 5+ years in a leadership role with a Strategy, Analytics or related team

Proficiencies, Skills or Equivalent Experiences:
  • Strong business acumen and application of data and insights into business strategy
  • Understand general predictive modeling techniques such as regressions analysis, customer profiling and segmentation, needs analysis, financial modeling, and other types of quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques
  • A critical thinker who can identify solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to initiate, design, execute monitor and evaluate outcomes of a project or initiative
  • Demonstrated proficiency to collaborate with colleagues across multiple business areas
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey complex results in a clear, concise, and credible manner
  • Refined presentation skills with expertise in designing effective charts and graphs
  • Organized and disciplined with a strong attention to detail and persistent curiosity
  • Experience leading a team and managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, Requirements:
  • Foundational computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience in database management and working with relational databases (Snowflake is preferred)
  • Fluent in SQL programming for database querying and management
  • Experience with a BI/Visual Analytics Tool: Tableau is required
  • Experience with a data science toolkit (Python, R, etc.) required
  • A deep understanding of various statistical methods including linear regression, logistic regression, clustering and time series forecasting required

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • In-house/in-office position at Toyota Center in Houston, TX
