What is an analytics manager?

An analytics manager translates raw data into insights that a business can use. Usually leading a team of analysts, your job duties include developing data analysis strategies, tracking and reporting on performance, implementing tools and solutions, and overseeing all analytics operations. You must stay up-to-date on current industry trends. Strong communication and analytical skills are required. Other qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in statistics, data management, or information technology and proven career experience in market research, statistical modelings, or project management.

How does an analytics manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business insights?

Analytics Managers frequently work alongside teams such as marketing, product development, finance, and operations to translate data into actionable business strategies. They facilitate meetings to understand stakeholder goals, guide data collection efforts, and present findings in a way that's accessible to non-technical audiences. This cross-functional collaboration ensures that insights are aligned with business objectives and that projects are implemented effectively. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an analytics manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Analytics Manager, you need strong analytical skills, data interpretation expertise, leadership experience, and typically a degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies. These competencies ensure data-driven decision-making, effective team leadership, and impactful business outcomes.

  • Upsell Opportunities: Identify additional opportunities for value-added services or upselling during client interactions, aligning them with the client's strategic objectives.
  • Service Positioning: Clearly articulate the value and benefits of Definitive Healthcare’s services to clients, aligning offerings with their strategic goals and identifying opportunities for expanded engagement.
  • Conflict Resolution: Handle client conflicts or challenges with diplomacy, seeking mutually beneficial solutions and maintaining a positive working relationship.
  • Data Qualification: Validate claims and procedure volumes to ensure the effort invested will produce worthwhile results for the customer.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple client projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and documentation of all processes, and follow-up with the client.
  • Revenue & Utilization Monitoring: Track and analyze services revenue, utilization, and margins for assigned accounts, ensuring alignment with internal growth objectives and proactively addressing over-utilization with clients and account teams.
What You’ll Bring
  • 6+ years of demonstrated experience in technical RWD/RWE Analytics roles.
  • 2+ years in a client-facing role as a CSM, Insights Consultant, or Solutions Engineer capacity.
  • Expertise working with SQL (SQL Server and/or Databricks preferred) and Business Intelligence tools (Tableau and/or Power BI preferred).
  • Expertise working with medical claims (DRG, ICD, HCPCS/CPT, NDC) to drive insights for customers (e.g. patient journey, segmentation, targeting, referral pathways, etc.).
  • Experience working with data visualization and explaining the “so what?” to clients.
  • High level of organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to present technical topics to a business audience, both virtually and in-person.
